It is stated that the province is committed to assist but as yet this has not been established nor committed in the purchase of property. The report calîs for support from private ]and owners. The report suggests that the local municipalities, with conservation authorities, with provincial assi stance, be responsib le for' the actual construction and maîntainance of the waterfront trail. It is interesting that Newcastle has the longest waterfro ntarea of any municipality, 31 kilometers and has virtually the smallest length under publicly accessible shoreline. Most of the public lands is in D arlington of which most of it is containied in the Darlington provincial park. The planning department see a major task ahead for Newcastle just to secure significant land parcels, let alone develop the trail that has been envisaged by the overail plan. It is pointed out that that there is plenty of opportunity to make provis ions for the trail during future planning of the lakefront area as developers corne forth for proposai agreements. A number of suggestions have been proposed for the Town of Newcastle. Included i s a walking/biking trail along the hydro corridor east fromn Darlington Generatîng Station to the Bowmaniville harbour. Thnen to proceed wih conanections between existing roadways past Port Darlington to the Wilmot Creek community . To establish 'a trail and bridge connection over the Wilmot Creek as well as a hiking trail along the Bond head Bluffs south of the railways lines from Stevenson Road eastward and frnally to a cquire some of Cameco wallpaper ready to show and he was ready to seil paint as well. lands along the waterfront and in the wooded valley along the Newcastle-Hope Township boundary. jKinsmen Bike-A- Thon (Continued from page 1) pledges collected, and trophies and mnedallions for driving abilities will be presented at the schools at a later date.
