President George Bush in Ottawa. The new acid ramn accord states that both couinties will reduce envinonmental degrada- tion by slashing sulphur dioxide emissions to 50 percent of 1980 levels by the year 200() in the U.S., and by 1994 in Eastern Canada. By 19941, the western provinces will also be subject to, a suiphur dioxide control pro- gram, and a permanent national cap on sulphur dioxide emis- sions will be set at 3.2 million tonnes annually by the year 2000. In addition, the U.S. will cut nitrogen oxide emissions byý 2 million tonnes annually, among other guarantees. -FThe new accord is a signif- icant and myeaninýgfuil step towards cleaning up our en- vironiment ina cost-efficient and effective mnanner," explains ian MacNabb, President of tire C'anadian Gas,, Association. fuel Ithat can be used in our factor ics, pow\cr plants anld \e- hlicles. to support Noii rth Amer- ica's cflorts to eanthe airý."
