Community Care Volunteer MPP; Betty McGregor presenting Adamsons reachî tentative agreement with the Ministry of Transportaion & Communication A tentative agreement lias been reached between the Adamson family, Pontypool and the Ontario government as a result of their camp-out on the lawns of the provincial legisiature last week. The family contend that they lost their home and riding stable business as a resuît of the widening of Highway 115 in front of their property. Prior to the construction the Adamson's lad access to their riding stable property off Highway 115. Now access is from a service road whidh runs alongside the north boundary of the property. Bruce and Barbara Adarnson with their children Coady 2, Paula 8, and Andrea 10, were prepared to remnain with their truck and trailer at the legislature until the governmnent was prepared to compensate them for their loss. The tentative agreement was reached last Wednesday when the Minis try of Transportation cormnitted the govemnment to some short-termn financial compensation for past expenses and possible future costs that may be incurred by the Adamnsons. As well two studies are to be undertaken thnt may lead to long-termn compensation. The govemnment lias agreed to pay the cost of a hotel or motel for tie family until the end of the end of April. The govemment will also pay the first and last month rent for accomnmodation that could be found by the couple. The provin('e is to cause a drainage study to be undertaken to determ-ine effect (d the road work- and the effect it Iiiay have had on well water and to tpe stables. A business analYsS is also to be undertaken as to what impact the road work lad on tMe business. The province further is to pay expenses for the tboarding of their ten horses (of a former 20) to a maximum of $4500.00 and reimburse the farnly for reasonable legal costs relatinig to their business loss dlaim. The studies are expected to take two months. Due to (Continued page 3) The Town of Newcastle Community Care organization on Wednesday evenin.g held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Niglit for a group of "care givers" numbering over three hundred. The evening event was held in the Baseline Community Centre with a considerable number in attendance. Greetings were extended by the Community Care chairperson, Roxann Brown, Gord Milîs for the Province and by Eleanor Ireland for Durhamn Commrunity Care. Following the introduction of the -staff and Advisory Board members by Roxy Ramnes, co- ordinator of the Newcastle organization, awards were presented for service of excellence in volunteering and to those who had reached the 400 Club (combined hours and tasks). Special recognition was made through the presentation of the Kathleen Grundy Memorial Award to Cloyd Morey;,the Honour Rol Award to Roxann Brown; and the Tom Smith Award to Greta Down. Sally Berry, co-ordinator of Meals on Wheels, then spoke of the important link that lias been played by Memorial Hospital in preparing meals for seniors.
