The beautifuil weather on the evening of Thursday, May 30, meant a good turn out of the Bowmanville Legion League players, who were fortunate enough to get to help Don Clarke, a local A & P manager, celebrate bis fiist Hole in One. The unfortunate Don aced the 215 yard # 7 using a 3 wood. The witnesses, Glen Murphy, Raye West and Bruce Coombes said the shot hit the green and rolled in on the difficult Par 3. Orono homes feature of Sig Sister tour The Big Sisters of Newcastle, Oshawa, Whitby are holding their annual House Tour with seven amazing homes on display. The event is being held on Saturday, September 2lst and tickets cost $15.00. Busing is available at an extra charge. Tickets available at the Orono Apple Blossom Shop, Main Street, Orono. The tour raised $4,500 last year for the Big Sisters. Tbree Orono homes are on the House Tour tbis year, a log cabin, a new two-storey home and a century home will bc featured. On Sunday, June 9th, Durham Region held their first Life Chain event, which was a silent, peaceful, and prayer, way for people to protest against abortion. The event stretched 30 miles froin Pickering to Newtonville on Highway 2 and crossing to forin a cross on Simncoe St. in Oshawa from the Oshawa General Hospital to the Rose of Durhamn. People were asked to stand on the side of the road approximately 15 feet apart holding signs saying "Abortion Kilîs Children" for an hour froin 2:30 p.m. to 3:-30 p.m. The event was organized by different parishes and church organizations around the region. Being the first event of this kind ever to be held in Durham Region, the day went fairly well despite somne mishaps. by Vicki Gaudreault Poor showing' The Town of Newcastle camne up with a poor showing on, Participaction Day with resuits somnewbat under those of last year.
