Stapleton at Monday's council meeting came out in ful support of a petition received from residents of Newtonville calling for the lowering of the speed limnit onHgbay 2. The petition called for a speed limit of 50 km ramher than the present 60 kmn. The petition refers to speedinig onthe higbway and the possible loss of life if t continues. Counc. Stapleton said it was a serious situation and a most valid request. He pointed out that a lot of people had to cross the highway to school. 2000 plus attended Environmental Fair For mhe possible 2000 plus who attended mhe Enviromnental Fair in the Bowmanville Recreation complex last Sunday it had to be an unique experience delving through some 50 displays with each baving an environmental connotation of one formi or another. Volunteer groups were out in force alo ng -with commercial presentations all relating te the protection of the environment or theý use of environmentally safe products. t was apparent that it was a family venture with parents and the kids ail finding something of interest and something to bold for the future. Tbe various booths wîth their themes were well displayed provîding pertinent printed and verbal information for the many inquisitive minds, both young and old. The Environmental Fair was a class act and according to Helen MacDonald, one of tbe main organizers, it is an unique event for Ontario. MacDonald hopes the fair becomes an aninual event wbere grass root organizations, as well as governments, 'industry and commercial enterprises can point out what they are doing to protect the envirorunent. "The fair", she said, "bas been a wonderful success". A somnewhat understatement. t was pointed out by tbe organizer that exhibitors were greatiy impressed wim mte relevant questions being asked, botb simple and complex and also with the interest shown by mhe entire famîly. MacDonald commented, "people are no longer si tting on tbe fringe of environmental issues." If one should ask just what the Environmental Fair offered the answer would have to be - just about everytbing in the context of the environment as well as entertainment by the Raging Grannies and free draws.'
