Weil, you have to know 1 just Little Scoops . . Archery Chamipion, Louie Van Meyl Louie Van Meyl moved from the Cambridge area to Newcastle Village five years ago witli bis family. Along witli hirn li brouglit bis -deep passion for the artformn of arcbery. Louie started shooting and winning medals at the age of twelve. To him it lias been an artform, indeed. from the onset. "Arcliery . . ." Louie explains, "is a silent teacher of respect, discipline and gives an appreciation of the truc art of the game. t is by no means a spectator sport. It is competitive and trying;- and under pressure, as we know, the fine motor skills seem to be the first to go. Arcbery is a rare sport, virtually unchanged for thousands of years. . Louie Van Mey1 is a member of the Professional 'Archery Associatio>n (P.A.A.), and of the Federal International- Target Association (F.I.T.A.) as well. He is a seven-tirne Canadian Archery Champion, a thirteen-time Provincial Archiery Champion, and lias been a participant in Archery in- the Pan-Arn Games, Can -Arn (lames and the World Archery Event, with rules applying to International Competitioni. He lias represented Canada in Mexico, Brazil, Holland, Moscow, Poland, England and the United States. Just this past July 1991, Louie placcd a very impressive fourth in the Canadian . National Cbarnpionships hcld in Calgary, Alberta. Tbis involvod a fuill five-days of shooting, so intense, that winning or losing can corne as a direct re sult of one single arrow ..rather like comparing it to a single poor shot in a superb game of golf. Louie received a tearn gold in July, in Calgary, and a birth on the Canadian Archery Team, to compete at the World Field Cliampionships in Holland next June, 1992. "Ail and everything I do will be geared to peaking at the Field Cbampionshîps, fromt here on in." Louîe States. Two months ago, Louie Van Meyl opened up bis "Best Archery Sliop" at bis home on Caroline Street East in tlie Village. Grier tells Durham to build Trans fer Station Ruth Grier, Ontario's Environment Minister lias order Durham Region to build a new transfer station for waste that will be trucked to the Keele Valley landfill site nortli of Metro Toronto. It is expected Iliat the station will corne into play when the Brock West landfill site is closed and Durham will have to take their waste to Keele Valley. Grier bas also ordered that the Keele Valley landfill site capacity be expanded as well as the landfill site in the Region of Peel. 1 The Minister lias said Durhamn bias tliree weeks in which to prepare an outline on meeting lier order. The order requires Durbam to conduct studies on establishing, operating and maintaining one or more waste transfer stations.
