Durham, at his constituency office Thursday afternoon announced that Mr. Patrick MacCulloch had been appointed as the chairman of the Siting Task Force. Stevenson further reported that it was his expectation that the other members would be in place and that the Task Force would be in operation this autumn. Stevenson said he has worked towards a resolution of the long- standing problem with low-level wastes that exists in Port Granby, Port Hope and Hope Township since his election in 1988. He said this issue had been discussed by him with the Minister of Energy and his officials on a number of occasions over the past six months. MacCulloch is president of Peak Consultants, an international management consulting practice with associates in Canada and England. Since the first proposal in February 1990 the plan has been redefined with the withdrawal of a marina which would have jutted out into the lake and a relocation of the hotel from the easterly area of the 58 acre site to a more westerly site with a lesser elevation above the lake. The proposal still maintains the 250-room resort hotel, convention centre and resort-style six condominiums building with 1200 units. The current proposal, according to information at the meeting, again goes before council on September 9th, 1991. Mondays and Thursday starting Global TV to visit Durham Central Fair A production crew from Global TV in Toronto is expected at the Orono Fairgrounds next week to cover the fair. Global is planning to do live coverage from several fairs in Ontario this season and Durham Central has been chosen as one of them. The crew is expected to arrive at the Fairgrounds before lunch and choose a sight to set up their equipment that affords a good view of the grounds. During the aftemoon they will be doing spot interviews and shots of some of the ongoing events. Some possible targets for the camera man will be the School parade which is scheduled to arrive in front of the grandstand at 12:30. Or possibly the Jersey Show will catch his eye at 1:00 p.m. Other events that would make interesting coverage are the 4H Champion Showmanship at 3:00 p.m. and the 4H Lamb Show at 4:00 p.m. Global plans to do a live broadcast of the News and Weather at 5:30. Susan Hay and the Global crew will be on hand to do the live broadcast from the fair. Ready, Set, Go for localfair One of the features of the Orono Fair of recent years has been piglet races and more recently duck races. Well, its back to piglets this year and as above they are already in training. This picture was taken before work Monday moming when Ann Dreslinski, one of the trainers, had them out for a tune-up before breakfast. We have learned that these piglets are Durac-Hampshire crosses and were purchased at the Durham County Auction barn last week at $35 .00 a piglet. The Durac-Hampshire cross does, apparently, make for an aggressive pig and the trainer states it was no time before they had caught onto the process of the race. On top of this they are aerodynamic and their tails are short and straight thus reducing wind resistance. One has racing strips that possibly can be seen in the picture. Best catch this act at the Orono Fall Fair. The Igloo Beefactory The Region of Durham Igloos are not receiving too many accolades of late. Counc. Wotten registered some residents' complaints at the last meeting of council before the recess. The hole for the bottles and cans is far too small requiring considerable time to dispose of them - one at a time. It just does not make possible a quick dump from a container. When Wotten reported this concern Counc. Larry Hannah said it would be looked
