On Junre 1, 1991 Laurie Ann Hollingsworth, daughter of Joan and Armond Hollingsworth of RR. 1, Bethany and Scott Gregory Stephens, son of Brenda and Greg Stephens of Bowmanville were united in marriage at the Orono United Church. The service was officiated by Rev. Fred Milnes. Organist was Mrs. Stella Morton and Soloist was Miss Nancy Alilin. The bride was given ini marriage by lier father. She wore a formal off thxe shoulder, taffeta gown with puffed sleeves, basque waist and butterfly bow which dropped from the top of a cathedral train. The fitted bodice was accented with appliqued lace, sequins and drop pearîs/crystals. A headpîece of pearîs and crystals held a long Veil. The bride wore the groom's gift of a drop pearl necklace and matching earrings and carried a bouquet of peacli roses and Miies, lily of the, valley and ivy. The matron of honour Karen Juby, of Ottawa and bridesmaids Wendy Gilbank of Newcastle, Wendy Hollingsworth of Orono and, Kathy Zych of Oshawa, were gowned in peach satin and carried bouquets of royal blue roses with peach lily. The flower girls Stephanie Rutherford of Orono and Sarah Lane of Bowmanville, carried heart-shape arrangements of peach roses and dove with gold ring. The groom wore a black tuxedo with tails, black cummerbund and tie, and was attended by the best man Paul Stephens of Bowmanville. Ushers were Fred Gilbank of Newcastle, Terry Hollingsworth of Orono, and Matthew Moore of Oshawa. They wore black tuxedos, with peach cummerbunds and ties. The bride's mother wore a royal blue gown accented with a corsage of peach roses. The groom's mother wore a turquoise gown accented with a wrist corsage of peach roses. The reception was held in the Newcastle Town Hall. Leaving forla honeymoon at Niagara Falls the bride wore a floral pattemned dress with short jacket. Mr. and Mrs. Stephens are now residing in Pontypool. Hamre Cowrman again in, debate Diane Hamre and Ann Cowman last week once more faced a sizeable audience at the Bowrmanville Hîgh making their bids to gain support to the Mayors chair in the Town of Newcastle, Marie Hubbard and Matthew Morra did flot.show for the meeting which was sponsored by the Professional Womnen's Club, After openiing addresses both candidates presented their views on a number of questions placed by those in the audience. Questions ranged from protection of the waterfront to publishing pollution index figures, industry, parkland- and 407 highway. On the question of being in favour of Highway 407 Ann Cowman said she felt perhaps it should go farther north and that the southem route was too close. Diane Hamre said there was controversy over the preferred southern route but that speaking to representatives of the Region and Ministry they said that the southemn route did flot go through the best agricultural land and was so located to provide an accessible transportation corridor for industry in the southern parts of the community. She also sald the Oak Ridges Moraine was protected and that a more northern route above the Moraine hadt been said to be too far north to service industry. She said the road was some 20 to 35 years down the road but did hope that a comprise could be reached. 1Both candidates were supportive of valleyland recreational areas and mention was made of the pilot programi underway in the Village of Orono. lI the matter of savîng farm land Hamre said in referring to the proposed Regional plan said she hears that Queen's Park is flot satisfied and she would hope that the scope of farmland slated for development would be pulled back by the province. Cowman said she was aware that farmers were having a difficult time but they are not making agricultural land anymore. Both candidates spoke of the need of Regional government.
