ý-Orono Lighting of Christmas and Craft Show this week-end It aIl happens in Downtown Orono this week-end with the Town Hall Christmas Craft Show, a three day event, a long with "The Lighting of Chrisimas" to take place Friday evening. -1 0f course both events are centred around the 0?ono Town Hall with the Craft -Show indoors and the Lighting of Christmnas on the front steps of the hall. The Lighting of Christmas Friday evening starts off with carol singing at 6:30 p.m. with voices from the Public School, the Orono Girl Guides and Brownics. The Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen wîll be serving hot dogs and hot. chocolate during the cvcning which lasi year was well patroniied. 1Participating merchants in the downtown are offering a break fromi the G.S.T. Friday evening fromn 6:30 to 9:00 p.rn. by paying the tax themselves. The Lighting will feature thc first appearancc of the new Christmas lights on thc street light standards in Uic downtown area. As to the Craft Show Uiere are some new exhibitors this year and it is understood that they number twcnty-three. It is a good opportunity to find something different for Christmas boUi as gifts and decorations. Cowman had built up a slight edge in the last couple of reporting poîîs but the final one turned the tide for Hamre. Marie Hubbard was well behind in the contest. But Uic Mayoralîty race wasn't the only cliff hanger for in local council for Ward Three Uic battle was between Charles Ewcrt and David Scott with Scott finally up by 20 votes over Ewe-rt. Also in Ward Three a race developcd, after a slow start, between Bil Clarke and Ann Dreslinski with Dreslinski finally edging Clarke- by 133 votes. In the referendum question the victory went to those wishing to change the name and 2who had voted No on thc question. As usual Uic tumnout at Uic poîîs registercd in from 30 to 33 percent. it was well after miidnight before Uic final tally was miade. SAVIOUR'S BAZAAR Along with the many festivities happening in downtown Orono this weekend St. Saviour's Anglican Church will be holding its annual Christmas Bazaar this Saturday from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. SANTA CLAUS PARADE For the young and the young at hci-rt the annual, Bowmanvillc Santa Claus Parade wîll be this coming Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. So bundi e up warm and enjoy the parade! NO WAThR FOR DOWNTOWN Well Monday was a day to remember especially for the downtown area with no water for 3 hours as the result of a broken watermain in front of the Beckers Store. Some of the area businesses incurred flooding in their basements. ORONO TOWN HALL EUCHRE RESULTS The Orono Town Hall euchre results for Wednesday, November 6th withi 14 tables in play were: High scores Helen Couroux with 82; Roy Hayward, Bill Grady and Hazel Murphy cach with 78; Leta McAllister and Hilda Caswell each with 77. Low score Edith Gordon. Draw winners werc Carl Todd; Eddy Couroux; Edith Gordon; Tom Wilson; Marion Staples; Walter Murphy and Bea Robinson. Euchre is held every Wednesday nighit at 8 p.m. Ladies On Sunday afternoon at the Orono Cenotaph one of Uic largest gatherings of the past ycars was present to witness and take part in the annual Remembrance Day Service. From Uic youngest Orono group, the Squirts, to other local organizations, the Sea Cadets, Guides, Scouts, Brownics, Cubs, and of course members of the Legian. The parade from the Orono Oddfellows Hall 10 Uic Cenotaph was lead by the Bawmanville Legion Pipe Band. As in Uic past numaber of years the Salvation Army band added' much witn their music for the hymus and during the interval taken for Uic laying of the wreatlis. Sterling Mather acted as Master of Ceremonies for Uic program. Gord Milîs, M.P.P. Durham East brought greeîings from the, province as did Diane Hamre from thc Town of Newcastle. Milîs spoke of Uic significance of the day and said he was en- couraged ta se 50 many presesit.
