Mfter eleven years as a Regional councillor Diane Hamre bas been placed firmly in the position of Mayor of the Town of Newcastle following a recount of ballots last week. For almost two and a baîf days the recount gave Hamre an edge of 38 votes fromt the recount over mhat of Ann Cowman. The final talîy gave Hamre 5,185 votes with Cowman coming in at 5,147. The officiaI counit the day fellowing the election Harnre was aliead by 28 votes and held this edge going into the recount. The recount required the counting of every single ballot and any dispute had te be resolved x~before moving on. Mayor Hamre said that Ann Cowman bad been gracious after learning the results of the vote and had wished her well.
