My previous job often took me into Toronto, but for the last few months 1 have stayed back in the rustic, tractor-intensive regions of Orono, Kendal, Kirby and Newtonville. A few days ago 1 was li Toronto, and was surprised that Torontonians are really attemapting to be polite. 1 mean at least they are flot pretending to hate everybody. I noticed that car-drivers were very thoughtfully 'allowing pedestrians as much as .3 seconds to get out of the way, even though technically, a car lias no right on the sidewalk. Another example of politeness 1 noticed was that nobody ridiculed my clothes. Everybody in Toronto, including police horses, dresses fashionably, and whenever F'm there, even i my sharpest funeral-quality suit, with no visible signs of gravy or ketchup stains, 1 feel as thougl I'm dressed in a green trash bag. Joyous Celebration at Durham Christian High School On Thursday, December 19, 1991 the Durham Christian High School (DCHS) Departmnent will be presenting their Annual Christmas Prograra beginning at 7:30 p.m. The school's Choir and Concert Band will be performing along with the Double Quartet Vocal Ensemble and the Durham Jazz Combo. Tickets for this musical extravaganza are available for $3.00 from any student in the DCHS Music Department or by calling the school at 623-5940. Tickets will also be available-at the door prior to the concert. The Music Department at DCHS is directed by Mrs. Glenda Hull and Mr. Dennis R. Ulîman. Durham Christian Hligh School provides quality education for students from Oshawa, Cobourg, Peterborough, Lindsay, Port Perry and Bowmanville communities. by Gord Milis Reporter 1Another thing 1 noticed in Toronto, was the fashionable guys had liaircuts which the liair is real long on top, but abruptly stops halfway down the head - like real cool!!,! This made me a little paranoid about my own hair, after al I have stuck with my "style'* now for over 55 years. Nobody, in Toronto bas had my style of haircut since the depression, yet nobody made fun Of it. As 1 walked around Queen's Park I noticed soute of the potiticians wîth worse haircuts dha mine, they looked so bad that they must have received them ftrm their consti tuency offices by fax machine. Contrary to general belief, Queen's Park is still the hub of Ontario's decision making, it lias been converted to luxury condominiums as some people would have you believe. It is SÛRl performing die vital function that it was establislied to perforra in our troubled times, namely, multi receptions for foreign dignitaries or closed for holidays. Since 1 was in the area of decision making, I decided to use some proven joumnalism techniques, like talking to a person standing next, to me. Me: "What are you doing down bere?" Person: I study economnics." Me: "How are things going- then?" Person: "Better." Unfortunately at that point the person walked away, but nevertheless I bad what we journalists call die "main thrust" of a story. It was defmnitely a load off my mind, I could now escape the wrath of the "Times Editor" and produce a story for the newspaper in tise to make this Wednesday's edition. Phew!!! What a relief- until next week. Expres the warmth I ofthe holidlays Celebrate this joyous season with the FTD® Reindeer Basket"M Bouquet. Or the FTD® Season's Gree tingsM Bouquet.
