Donna Hutton welcomed those present and the meeting opened with O'Canada accompauied by Shirley Moffat. Yvonne Trafford read the minutes and Adele McGill presented the treasury report. A poem titled "The Truc Meaniug of Christmas" by Helen Steiner Rice was shared with us by Donna. Aunouncements wcrc made rcgardung the need of a president and secretary for Orono Horticulture for uext year, as well as two Junior Gardener leaders. The Annual Meeting and Pot Luck Supper is scheduled for Thursday, January 23, 1992, when memberships will be sold. Each family is asked to bring a main course with them. We ail cnjoyed Donnads story of how Holly, the Christmas trec and mistletoe traditions began. Mis. Dini Schoenmaker was our judge and guest speaker for the evening. While Dini was judging the show, Shirley Moffat accompanied us on the piano in a Christmas sing-along. Vice-president Cornie DeJung introduced Dm1i to everyune. t was a reai pleasure to watch Dini create the beautiful mantel arrangement. We ahl appreciated the pointers sucli as to be careful to place the candies away from other tlings in the arrangement tu cuver the wires of decorative birds with floral tape and to split the ends of greenery tu keep them from moving or twisting around. In a mantel arrangement with a mirror or glass behind it, it's important to complete the arrangement all round. Lorna Atkins thanked Dini for the beautiful demonstration and for judging the show for us. Dini very kindly douated the niantel arrangement for the lucky draw. t was great to see Euo Sharpe win the arrangement, as she worked su liard with the show cummittee and setting up the tables. Lomna told us aIl about the great relandscaping plans for the Orono Cenotapli as well as a interlocking brick walkway. We'll be open for ideas for fundraising activities to help cover the cust in the upcoming year. Deliejous treats and liot apple eider were served by the lunch cummittee, Cornie DeJong, Dorothy Barniett, Pat Windatt and Jenuy Bowens. Everyone thoroughly enjoycd the social time tugether. It was a special treat tu have in attendance Russell Ransbcrry whom i lcamcd is alsu known as a "trcc doctur" from Dorval.
