4 - O no WekIy Tme,~ ed...........nhr 1...... g Tykes Reds win over Bowmanville Drug Mart Monday, December 9th, Shopper's Drug Mart came to Orono to play the Orono Red's, coming short-handed mhey picked qp two of Orono Blue's players Glenco Hogle and Bryan Bickell. In tme first period of the game the play was back and forth until Bowmanville Shopper's Drug Mart squeaked one by Orono Reds Soalie Lee Allun. It was in the second period when Orono Red's Matt Caruana let loose and scored two unassisted goals, giving themn mhe lead. Things kept tense as in me third period Scott Wood got bis first career penalty two minutes for tripping. Orono Red's goalie Lee Allia did a great job to keep the puck out of his net to give Orono a 2-1 win. Good game boys. Tykes Blue play Tim's Rentais The visiting teamn Tims Rentai went out slrong in mhe first period to get the flrst two goals of the game. it wasnt until almost halfway through the second period when Orono Blue's Matt Caruana got Orono on te scoreboard, tiis goal was assisted by Kyle Moore. Five minutes later was when the rien goal came fromn Orono Blue's Bryan Bickell, as he got a breakaway to get his first career goal. Several minutes later Glencoe Hogle scored the leading goal of the game, assisted by Matt Caruana and Kyle Moore. But before mhe period was over Tim's Rentai camne back to tie mhe gamne. End of mhe second period the score was 3-3. Well, mhe third period started off early wimh Matt Caruana scoring mhe go ahead goal for Orono Blue's, mhis goal was assisted by Bryan Bickell Scored first goals of the year. and Kyle Moore. Not much after the Orono fans settled down, Bowmanville fans were cheering as mheir boys had tied mhe game again. Eight minutes left in tme gamne Matt Caruana scored to get a bat-trick of the night, assisted by Jesse Price and Kyle Moore. Matt Caruana scoring less titan a minute later gives Orono Blues a littie more a secure lead, mhis goal being assisted by Bryan Bickell and Jesse Price. Matt Caruana to end his nigitî of a terrific game gets bis fifth goal of mhe night to give Orono Blue's a 7-4 win. The final goal assisted by Kyle Moore and Bryan Bickell. Orono Blue's winning goalie was Josit Brant who made many saves to give Orono Blue's a big win. Congratulations boys, keep up the good work. Bryan Bickell Curtis Robinson Bryan Bickell, 5, son of Anne Curtis Robinson, 6, son of Lynn and Bill, scored bis first career goal and Chris scored his first career on December 13, 1991. Bryan plays goal on November 25, 1991. Curtis for the Orono Tykes Blue's and plays for the Orono Tykes Blue's wears the number 2. and wears the number 4. Congratulations Biyan. Congratulations Curtis. Orono Noviceteam wins three of four The Lindsay Novice hockey team was in Orono Friday, December 6th to challenge our boys. Orono was up for the occasion, as they defeated their competition by a 4-2 score. Orono jumped out to an early lead scoring twice i the first period. First it was Andrew Beacock, assisted by Mike Garlick and then Chris Bouley, assisted by Andrew Reacock and Mike Garlick. Lindsay started mhe second period scoring but Orono camne right back with two quick goals. The first was by Andrew Beacock from Mike Oarlick and Christ Bouley, the second was by Brandon Caruana, assisted by Matmhew Gregg and Greg Shetler. The third period was a close one with Lindsay picking up the only goal. The lone Orono penalty went to Jeff Thompson for trîpping late in Oie first period. Congratulations boys on your performance and mhe wmn. On Saturday, December 7th Orono was in Ops for a Novice Tournament. In Lmeir first game our boys were pitted against St. Alphonsus of Peterborough. We camne out on the righit side of a 4-1 score in this match. The Peterborough team, started the Big Brothers stili a need in Newcastl'e Big Brothers of Newcastle has had a positive fal In September the agency needed 10 big brothers to match with Our boys on the waiting list, now we only need six Big Brothers., Boys waiting for a friend for over two years were finally matched. Your newspaper gave our agency excellent coverage during the fall. 1 arn certain this coverage bas had an effect on the number of scoring with 14 Seconds left in the, first period, but Orono's Brandon Caruana came back to tie it up with just 4 seconds left, unassisted. The second period scoring came from Andrew Beacock, unassisted. In the third period Orono scored twice. The first by Tyler Robinson, unassisted and the second from Greg Shetler, assisted by Andrew Beacock. This got our boys off to a promnising start in the toumament. In gamne two of the day Orono was to play Sutton. This gamne did not go so well as our boys ended wimh a 4-0 loss. The f irst period was closely contended until Orono's Greg Shetler left the ice with a tripping penalty. Orono held the opposition off well but in the final seconds of the penalty Sutton finally hit the mark to score the only goal of the first period. The second period was all Sutton as mhey scored tbree unanswered goals. Again in mhe mird period it was a close contest but the lack of offence for Orono kept themn off the scoreboard and out of the garne It was a valiant effort boys but mhis was not to be your day. Third period penalties went to Brandon Caruana for body checking and Jef Thompson for tripping. This past Friday, December 13th Orono played host to Millbrook. This traditionally unlucky day proved not so unlucky for Orono as mhey came away with a 2-0 victory. Both teamns played well as they skated to a scoreless first period. Late in the second period Orono fmnally got things started with a nice unassisted goal by Tyler Robinson. Late in the third Orono added to their lead with a goal by Jeff Thompson, assisted by Brandon MIS. It was a good effort boys. A special mention to Mike Gibson, who was tested several times in the final period. Millbrook had a few come around from behind the net opportunities which were all nicely foiled by Mike who was able to preserve his Sth shutout of the season. Once again boys way to go!
