ê - Cmii. W.eI~y TIm.s1 Wedn.uday~ December 18~ ~t ______________________________________ni Caryn Darcy loves kids.. ...and she believes in the higbest quality of daycare; the rigbt of every parent to expect the ultimate in care for their children, along witb the privilege of having all tbe options at band to enhance and compliment whatever daycare programme or facility they choose, long-termn, short-term, fuil-time or occasional. After mucb controversy and zoning by-law difficulties, tbe Newcastle Resource Centre bas been approved in tbe Village. One of tbe very first areas hopefully to be launchied is the Daycare Centre. Caryn Darcy's proposal to open and operate sucb a facility has been accepted by the Resource Centre's Project Co-Ordinator, Debbie Nowlan, and Building Purchaser, Kinrow Investiments. Caryn bas ten years Post Graduate experience in caring and dealing witb cbildren from ecarly childbood to adolescence. She is boping to be able to open "Smnall Miracles" next spring. Her goalsare clearly to provide more appropriate and suitable options to parents offering a wide range of services to supply more complete and tborough information on all aspects of child care, whetber the parent does or, does flot decide upon outside mae. "Small Miracles" will work band in band witb tbe Newcastle Family Connections" again, to armn and reinforce a more comprehensive programme. Caryn is overwhelmed witb the positive response she bas already received from the community in tbe way of donations. They now have enough equipment, including a fridge, stove, and freezer, to open up the nursery area as soon as it is feasible. Costs for the daycare centre have not been determined yet. They will vary depending upon the ratio of caregiver per child, (trcee to one with infants and up to fifteen to one for school age children). With many parents here, working outside of Newcastle, Mrs. Darcy feels that a centrally located programme in Newcastle is very much needed. A place wbere parents can safely leave their cbildren, in an atmosphere of caring, witbin their own community. This of course, can only benefit the child to be amongst tots bis or ber own age, and within their own environment. It was Caryn's pleasure to speak to the "Moms Morning" group last Thursday in Newcastie Village. For furtber information, or if you have any questions, call Caryn Darcy at 987-1971 regarding the Daycare Centre, or Katherine Blake regarding Newcastle Famnily Connections, at 987-3506. Congratulations to these Guides on tbeir achievements. Following the presentations, the Newcastle Guide Pack entertained their guests witb several songs, including "Tbis Land is Your Land" whicb they hope to take to the Spring Guide Competition next year. This year coming, tbey pronounce their Pride and Loyalty in Canada, and to lbring more smiles to everyone, this is their theme. Little Scoops ...
