'Me hockey season bas officially ended as far as the Orono Orpbans are concernied. This year tbe Orpbans have really made a name for themselves by going through to the finals of Ontario but were defeated by Hespler. Orono, Orpbans have been asked continually. to pay for their own travelling and equipment expenses so a Booster Night is being planned to help along these boys. Watch for the date and plan now to belp. The Orono Park Board met on Monday evening wben Mr. A. E. West occupied the chair and with Messrs. L. Lowery, R. R. Waddell, H. Mercer and W. H. Carman discussed items pertaining to the local park. Messrs. J. C. Tamblyn, Sid Rutherford and R.C. Forrester approached the park board on the possibility of being allowed to charge an admission for bardball gaines i the park. This permission was granted. Master Russell Major entertained a number of bis friends on Monday afternoon, the occasion being bis tentb birthday. Heather Lodge Social Club held a very, successful cooking sale and afternoon tea on Saturday afternoon. A sumn of around $5000 realized froin this venture. The basebaîl season officially opened for the Orono baseball teain on Thursday night of last week wben the local team went down to defeat at eh hands of the Kendal squad. The final score of thîs gaine was eight to nine. The Rebekahs and Oddfellows Service Clubs having completed a drive for funds, presented a cheque for $8 11.00 on Tbursday night of last week. This amount of money was collected to furnish a three bed ward in the bospital. April 1941 Mr. John Wannan, mail carrier on R. R. No. 2, Orono, is seriously ilI at home. Mr. W. J. Riddell spoke at the Clarke Union Home and School Club meeting last Friday evening. Mr. R. C. Rosborougb bas rented the bouse from the Samuel Billings estate, and we understand he will move into his residence in the Easter holidays. Mr. Chas. Wood has been appointed by the Orono School Board to fi the position of caretaker for Orono Continuation School, in the absence of Tom Lewis, who bas been given a leave of absence. The Orono Flour and Feed Mill wbich bas been carried on under the firm name of Cooper and Glanville for the past eleven years, bas been dissolved. In the future the business will be carried on by Mr. Robert Glanville. An accident wbicb migbt have proved fatal for the occupants of a car occurred on Main Street, Orono around a quarter to ten Sunday moming; April l3tb, wben a car allegedly driven by Mr. Harry Johnson, Toronto, crashed into the two gasoline tanks at H.* Mercer's Garage, sending both pumps flying down the street, and the car came to a stop when it stuck a telephone pote on the sidewalk in front of F. O. Cooper's barber shop. A maie quartette from Park St. Church choir, R. E. Logan, Manley Littlewood, Neil Porter and Colin Taylor, sang at the special Easter service at Clarke Churcb -on Sunday evening. On Saturday last the Orono Boy Scouts sold $16.00 worth of old iron, rags and paper. Up to the present they have made $39.00 fromt collecting salvage. Orono Lodge No. 436 will celebrate the 122nd Anniversary of the founding of the Independent Order of Oddfellows on Sunday, May 4, at 2:30 p.m., Standard Turne, at the St. Saviour's Anglican Church.
