QnoWeelcly TiMes, Wedsâ n uârý2g, 192l New officers for Horticultural Society Orono Horticultur.al Society, holds annual meeting & Pot Luck supper There was an excellent tumnout on Thursday, Janutary 23 for the Orono Horticultural Society's Annual Meeting and Pot Luck Supper, at the OronoUnited Church. Donna Hutton welcomed everyone to the meeting and said grace. Seated at the head table were Mr. John Finlay, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food office in Bowmanville and Mrs. Lynn Finlay, Yvonne Trafford our Secretary; Donna Hutton, President; and Adele McGill our Treasurer. The tables were attractively decorated with the beautiful roses fromn Mostert's Greenhouses. Ail of the foods were truly delightf ul to ail of the senses. t was extremely bard to mYake, a choice. Thariks to Mrs. Pam Werry and the Orono Guides, Karrie Armistrong, Sabrina Bruce, Allison Finlay, Cathy Hlammnond, Marie- Claire Bumstead, Crystal Halik < and Andrea Etmanskie for ail of their help with serving and the dishes. They are always, greatly appreciated! Many thanks to ail of the ladies that helped te make the evening a success! Everyone participated in the elimination game. t was a lot of fun! Doreen and James Loweiy and Nori Andrews entertained us with their swinging toe-tapping music. They aiways corne tbrough for us when we need them! Cornie DeJong made a motion that the minutes of last year's annual meeting be adopted as read and was seconded by Bob Nichols. Mrs. Coreen Sissons is to be given credit for thie idea of the souvenir book which was presented to Mrs. Minnie Zegers by Jennifer Vogel on behaif of the Junior Gardeners. Christopher Sissons presented Minnie with the pot of daffodils. Each junior gardener conttibuted a page to thank Mrs. Zegers for her 13 years of dedication and service to the Junior Horticulture. Karen Martin, Jo Harris and Shelley Etmanskie were ail presented with potted daffodils by the juniors for their help with the children. The treasury report was given by Adele McGil. Doreen Lowery gave the show committee report. Yvonine Trafford gave the activit7 report for the seniors. Cor Mostert gave the beautification report and Karen Martin gave the Jr. Gardener's activity report. The nomination committee consisted of Donna Hutton, Lawrence and Vera Staples. The siate of officers for 1992 were installed by Doreen Lowery. Our new President is Lomna Atins and Vice-president is Shelley Etmanskie. Flo Sharpe kindly stepped in as our Secretary and Adele Mcgil bravely stays on as Treasurer. First year Directors are Inez Harris, Min nie Zegers, Lawrence and Vera S tapies, Thelma Gilbank and Carol Mostert. Two year Directors are Thelma Vagg, Cliff and Eleanor Terrîll, June Heard and Cor Mostert. February meeting The federal Siting Task Force which was devised to relocate low level nuclear waste from the Town of Newcastle, Hope productive year with ail of the work materializing t hec prospective plans for the Orono Cenotaph. Vice president Shelley Etmnanskie Township and Port Hope has called a meeting of interested parties for February 8 and 9. It is poînted out that three stages of the study for a solution of the waste have been completed and the meeting will embark on stages four and five which are expected te take four years, The February 8 and 9 meetings will take the form of a workshop to discuss and schedule the work planned for Stage Four. The workshop will bring together member of the Task Force along with members of the source" communities, Town of Newcastle, Port Hope, Hope Township and members of the volunteer" communities of Hornepayne, Deep River and Geraldton who may considering hosting the waste in the future. One of the Task Force members is that of John Hubicki, and architect and civil engineer of the firma Totten Sims Hubicki of Cobourg.
