Pictured above in the Jennifer Vogel and Rachel And so, another year has passed into oblivion, and we're faced with the prospect of doing something constructive with what we face in the coming mnonths. It surely, and hopefully, can't be too mnuch worse than what most of us have had to endure, one way or another during the previous "Sj'ourn," but I suppose the "human animal" is fairly resilient, and can rebound, given half a chance, (even in this era!). However, before going any further, may 1 wish you ail a happy, fruitful, (and yes, even a prosperous, 1992) "G.M. TAKE NOTE!! And so, how was your Christmas, and New Year's (with apologies to Jim Stutt, and the girls)! Personally, we spent Christmas with our family and New Year's at home on our own. (A typical Darby & Joan!!!) We did, however manage to phone Lynne's sister and husband in England, on New Year's Eve, they were just going to bed. Remember theres a five hour time difference, but they sounded just as "excited" about the whole thing, as we were!!! Ain't life grand, once you pass twenty-one? On Christmas Day, i counted the cards we had recived, and found that they totalled 47, and included such places as, Englarir, U.S.A '.1, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, and we even had a few from my favorite country Canada! 1 didn't realize we hiad so many relatives and friends. However, we are now into another year, and it's a whole new "baîl game." -So be i. The first item of interest on the agenda, includes a party, where the h67st and hostess were both "enjoying" 5th Birthdays, having passed that hurdle myself recently (a rather ancient recently!) I can continue with tngue in cheek - so to speak. It was a very good party, (that means 1 wasn't footing the bill!). However, Ann. & Gord I congratulate you both. May you have many more birthdays and much happiness togetlher. Its always rather surprising to me, at these parties, when watching the "younger" generation,-dancing, and enjoying themselves, 1 marvel at how much everything has changed too much. Perhaps l'mn the one that has changed - "think about it". And so to you ail, young and old - fhave a very good 1992, we deserve it. An older, and hopefully wiser - Just George. Must trim costs The parent U.S. company owning Mathews Conveyer in Port Hope has stated that the Port Hope operation must cut costs. Workers at Port Hope were asked to forego a 64c. an hour increase in February as well as reduced benefits in prescription drugs. Further they were asked to forgo one week of holiday pay and to give up an extra day's holiday pay. Workers voted well over 90 percent to reject the request. The parent company operates another similar plant'in the U.S. where costs of operation are lower than that in Port Hope. -J- Brown's School S.S. # 5, Clarke Township TMe first school at Brown's was built in 1866, on three quarters of an acre of land given by Mr. Thaddeus Brown.
