Marjorie Kenny is welcomed by Principal Ray Simser. "My first week ai Newcastle Public School has been wonderful! The staff and students together, have made me feel so at home; it's as though 've been here for years. *..such were the pleasing comments of Marjorie Kenny, Newcastle Public School's new Vice-Principal, when we met earîjer this week. Mrs. Kenny began teaching in a smnall country school twenty-four years ago. After a span of fifteen years, her students were becoming like family; she began seeing the young children of somec of her earlîer students starting school. t was difficult, the lime had comne 10 make a change, to explore other horizons. She left for Percy Centennial Public School in Warkworth, from where she cornes to us hiere in Newcastle. Mrs. Kenny has taught every grade at the elementary level, from kindergarten to grade eight, including Special Education. Slie has attained her B.A. and B. Education, as she continues 10 pursue her true calling indeed, teaching. When asked if there was one thought or belief that came to mmid for Marjorie in her career, she replied without hesitation, "to do whatever 1 cari to enhance the quality of education ini ail aspects, for our young people today." Students mnust master the three Youth Dances (Continued from page 5) reunite runaway youths and streets kids with their families or 10 direct them 10 a support systemn that can best help themn become contributing members of society. They have been operating in Ottawa since 1971, In 1990 Operation Go Home became a National organization and a 1-800 number (1-800-668- 4663) is now in use across Canada for Youîh in Crisis. With everyone's help, Operation Go Home will be a wonderful success. Thank you te ail who helped make ibis event such a great success. If ibere are any women in the comrnunity IlR's'", explained Mrs. Kenny"..... however, in this present day, we know al 100 well thaï, there is s0 much more that has to be taught and included in the system, along with compulsory acadenics ... . .perhaps more so than ever before, youngsters are exposed to many other and sometimes rather sophisticated concerns: peer pressure, social developrnent and early, very important decision- making, corne to mmnd. Students deserve the guidance and support from an educational systern that will allow them to develop healthy self esteem and gain the tools they wiil need to eventually make sorne of those tough decisions. Students who gain ibis self esteem and confidence soon realize just how many opportunities await them and that girl/boy stereotyping is a thing of the past. 1 arn looking forward 10 being a part of ibis fine team at Newcastle Public School, and the many exciting plans we have in the works," she concluded, smiling. Marjorie joins in echoing the belief of each and every staff mnember atNewcastle; making sure their door is always wide open to parents and to the communfity; for the benefit and enrichment of ail students and their futures.
