Report fo Queen's Park PP Durhiam ýEast 1 know it's a bit early to think about next year, howeýver I have already decided not to send eut a 1993 calendar. It has been the custom over the years for members of the Legisiature to send their constituents a calendar. Likec my predecessor, 1 knuckled under to that tradi tion, 1 have since thought about it, and 1 have made- cLhe decision that ffic m-oniey could be useil to a better advantage. 1Lasi week 1 forgot to informi you that public meetings are being held to hecar what you think about the redirection of long-term care and support services. The remaining two meetings ini th is area are on-Monday, March 2 at Council Briefs Sam Brerton of Newcastle Fire Department and a member of the Newcastle Fire departmnent f'or the past 25 years was presented with a service award for the years of service to his departmient and community. Special thanks was expressed on behaîf of the Fire Marshall's Office and the Town of Newcastle. Counc. Hooper asked that the Community Service Departmnent look into the public address system in the counicil chamfbers. Hesaid he gets repeated reports that Uic general public cannot heýar what council memibers and staff are sayinig. The govemment has a draft amiendm-lent to the Power Corporation Act whichi wil allow for the expansion of the service area of somne municipal hydro utilities. Put into language perhaps better understood it means that certain municipalities, Newcastle and Scugog included, will be in a position to, purchase equipment and hydro lines at present under the jurisiliction of Ontario Hydro, in an affordable manner. This change will allow the transfer of the deiiveryv of hydro to the municipal utility, and the subsequent equality of cost for electricity delivered to homes within the named municipalities. If the draft amendment is approved promptly the Bill could go forward for First Reading in the Legislature as early as May. should contact the Town or their local councillor. The Museumn is holding a special press coniference on March lst at 2 p.m. outlining activities relating to the 125 Canada Aniniversary that will be undertaken at the Museum. Like most of you, 1 have from timeto-imegotten a bit fed up with some ntario Government Serviýes. TakIeher - the Cu!stomrer Service Task Force, set up early in 1991, is well on the way to provî,,de corporate direction and support in order to encourage high quaility customer service pracýtises on a consistent and widiespread bhasis throughout the Ontario Public Ser-vice. In plain language thie government bas understood that the public is not getting the quality of service it expects and is doing something about il. The changes to the service levels will be evolutionary with care taken to avoid- perpetuating a service system which is "rule-driven not customer driver". 'm looking forward to a new servie that will meet the full approval of the public at large. On Saturday, 1 spent the afternoon at Port Perry meeting with many constituents at the Anglican Chur-ch hall. These clinies seem to be gaining in popularity, and that's good. On Sunday, 1 spent the day at Queen's Park along with some of my colleagues, with the Ontario Treasurer. 0f course we discussed ~ways and means of reducing the deficit. I felt a hitle better about our deficit of nearly $10 billion when compared with that of Saskatchewan (on a per capita basis) of $22 billion. Until my report next week please try to care for one another. DENTISTRY FOR THE FAMILY (General Dentlstry includlng Orthodontïcs and Implants) DR.-B. KOSTIUK, B.Sc, D.D.S.
