Report fi e e e * Tf Çrpi t th NAME CHANGE COMMITTEE At the municipal election held on November 12, 1991;, the voters decided that the name of the Town of Newcastle should not be retained. ln order to generate new ideas for a new name and to facilitate public consultation, Council has decided ta appoint a Name Change Committee. The Committee will recommend to Council by October 19, 1992 one new name (which.cannot b. the name of any existing community in the Town) to replace "Newcastle". Council will corisider the Committee's recommendation and make the Town's recommandation to the Government of Ontario. The Cammittee is ta comprise eight residents of the Town six cf whom wUi be appointed by Council. Two persons appointed by Council shall reside in each of Wards 1, 2, and 3. In addition, the Newcastle and Northumberlandl Board of Education and the Peterborough-Vie.toria-Northumbfirland and Newcastle Roman Catholic Separate School Board each have been asked ta appoint ane member ta the Com mittee. Each persan who is appointed by a Board may ba a niember of the Board. The Name Change CommitteeshaII appoint one of its rnembers ta be Chair. It is expactad that participation on the Committea will require a considarable time cômmitment. The Committee shall be responsible for designing and implementing an appropriate public consultation process. A progress report on its work shall be submitted by the Committea to Council every month. Council will determine the status of the. municipality (e.g. Town etc.> which wilI b. recommended ta the Government of Ontario.
