Students, Rotary and Town planting 25,000 tree seedlings The Orono Park is slated for a tree plant at the end of this month when members of the Bowmnanville Rotary Club, school children and the Community Services Department of the Town ail become involved. The tree plant consists of 5000 tree seedlings along the east bank of the park property and will be undertaken on April 30th. In ail the Town and Rotary Club will plant some 25,000 tree seedlings in the municipality over the next couple of weeks. On April 28th the group with students from the Newcastle Village area will plant 10,000 seedlings in the Foster Creek Valley from Number 2 highway south. Then on Apnil 29th a further 10,000 seedlings are to be planted in the Soper Creek Valley in- Bowmanville where last year a similar program was also undertaken. The seedling tree prograrn 15 marked as an annual event with participation of the three groups and with the students apparently doing the planting having been called upon to bring a shovel. 0MB public session hears from both sides of theïissue Morley Rosenburg, chairman of the Ontario Municipal Board, hearing the issues, pro and con, over the Kirby Heights proposed 14 estate resîdentiai lots in the seventh concession of former Township of Clarke, opened the process to the general public hast Tuesday evening., The audience was equally divided, as were the speakers who approached the microphone, for both sides of the issue. The public session was a suggestion of the chairman along with a visitation of the site later in the week. Comments were quite varied on both sides of the issue at the public forum which continued for some four and a'half hours. The proponents of the plan were represented by Jane Pepino with the SAGA group being represented by Peter Petrie. Also present to cross examine ~witnesses were two lawyers for the Region of Durham and one each for the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of the Environinent. It is felt that the hearing will likely come to an end this week with a decision being presented sometime in the future. Tio wn siates officiai openings four new developed parks The Community Services departinent of the Town has slated the officiai opening of a number of parks this year within the municipality. Four parks will witness the traditional ribbon cutting ceremonies. In Newcastle Village the Bondhead Park at the lake front costing some $251,000 will bc officially dedicated along with The Westview Park in the Village costing somne S117,000. The Stuart Park in Courtice is to get the saine treatinent with the developinent completed at a cost of $276,000. The Bowmanville Recreation Complex Ball Dîamond, another development undertaken last year at a cost of $403,000 will also have the customary ribbon ceremony undertaken. T'he S. B. Rutherford Woods Walk Park along the Orono Creek Valley land in downtown Orono will be included in the official park opening sometime this coming year. Some $75,000 was spent ini the developinent prograin last year with a budgeted amount of $25,000 to be spent this year. World Orienteering event' being held Ganaraska forest According to comments at the recent Ganaraska Conservation Authority meeting a World Orienteering and Ontario Chainpionships are tobcb held in the Ganaraska Forest this coming fall froin October 1 to 4. Ben Burd of Cobourg referred to the conflict of sinaîl gaine hunting during the time of the World and Ontario event. He stated that sminal game hunting was allowed in the eastern and western sectors of the forest and could create a problem for the orienteering event. He said it would seem preferable that hunting was discontinued during the time the event was being held. The issue has bee-n referred to the Ganaraska User's Committee to consider and report to the Aùthority.
