O f a major nature the organization has been involved in two Ontario Municipal Board hearings over the past year. SAGA was a party to the Veltri hearing for a gas station in Kendal on Regional Road. The Board denied the application-of Veltri but on an appeal certain Kendal PeeWees play exhibition game. The Kendal PeeWees started their season off last week with an exhi bition game with the Port Hope Legionairres with tie gam-e played in Kendal. t was a disaster for the Kendal boys in a score of 24-2 of whîch 16 runs were scored by Port Hope in the final sixth innîng. The Kendal team is in a league this year with the Legionairres, and teams from Whitby, Ajax, Peterborough, Belleville, Little Britain, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Pickering and Cobourg. aspects of the hearing are to be reheared in June of this year. SAGA was the main objector of the ReidlReyneart application f'or 14 lots on some 40 acres of land east of Kirby and just north of Regional Road Nine. The financial statement submîtted at the meeting showed an expenditure of $35,993 for the 0MB hearing costs for legal and consulting fees. An additional $7,000 is expected as a result of an extention of the hearing that occurred following the com- pilation of the financial state- ment. In total expenditures for the year amounted to $38,037 plus the additional $7,000. Revenue from donations, special events, grants and boans of $35,000 amnounted to $40,933. t was pointed out ai the meeting that the final decision of the 0MB hearing may still be a few months off. BOTTLES, SAVE FOR JULY IST Newcastle Family Connection nc. of the Newcastle Family Resource Centre are alf prepared with their annual event of the Teddy Bear -Clinic which this year reaches out tw five communities, including Orono and Newcastle during the Heritage Week celebrations. The event begins Saturday, May 23rd morning at the Heritage Day parade in Bowmanville with the entry of their Heritage Hospital, a miniature size hospital building. Following the parade the hos- pital with its staff of volunteer health professionals wil set-up at the Bowmanville Mail from 12 noon until 6 p.m. The staff will receive children with their Teddy Bears for the annual health check-, up. Recommendations will be made for wellness and receive a Teddy's health Certificate. There will also be a free children's draw and as weIl free health and safety information for parents, caregivers and older children. It is to be a fun event and educational from information available which will help keep children safe, healthy and happy. The children's Teddy Bear hospital and staff will visit Newcastle Village on Sunday, May 24 at Memorial Park from 10) a.m. tili 5 p.m.; at S.T. Worden School, Courtice on May 29 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.; at the Orono Town Hall on Saturday, May 30 fromn 10 a.m. tilI 5 p.m. and at the Enviroaiment Fair on Sunday May 31 froil a.m. until 5 p.m. These events are free. The Newcastle Family Con- nection luc. are also promoting two fund raising activities to assist with the financing of community famnily wellness. The group hope to raise $2000 through the Teddy Bear Raffle to assist with the Toy Lending Library. The group note Set plans for Town GO station Town staff have advised the general purpose committee that it is imperative that a study be undertaken at tbis time outlining the location of a GO transit station within the urban area of the Town of Bowmanville, more specifically in the Bowmanville Main Central Area, west of Waverley Road. A study is already underway in the Main Central Area and staff recommend that it be expanded to include the siting of a GO station in the area along the CPR rail lune. The report, tags a priced of some U67,000 of which the Ministry of Transportation state verbally, they would-support assistance of 75 percent of the cost amounting to no more than $40,000 - $50,000. Staff point out that municipal fundsý would be available and are covered under the 1992. budget. Proceeds will be used for next year's teddy bear Clinic along with expanding a phamphlet and literature based on health and safeîy issues in the Resource Centre.
