If your done with the magazine that you are reading give to a doctor's office or donate it to the Salvation Army. Instead of throwing out old clothes, give them to the Salvation Army, too. Or if it is completely beyond wear, use it as a rag to cut down on your use of paper towels. Use your imagination. Maybe you don't think it can be reused. To you it looks like garbage. To your child, it may look lîke the beginnîng of the greatest rocket ship known to mankind. If you don't have chiidren of your own, I'm sure that any daycare, nursery school or even kindergarten class would accept donations of your yarn scraps, pie plates, wrapping paper. Asîde from the three R's, remnember to compost. You cani easily build your own composter if you don't want die expcnse of purchasing one. This is the best way to cut down on household wastes. Food waste is a large source of die waste we produce.- There is so much more we can do to reduce our garbage production. We don't have to be a throw-away society anymnore. There are new options. Go to dhe local branch of your iibratry and ask if they have more information on what you can dIo. Excuse the rambhlings, but we don't want Metro's garbage ini our backyard. if we can ail reduce the amounit of garbage we produce, years fromn now, mnaybe we won't ýfighting off the JWA againi. Orono Bantam Update After an impressive 4 + 0 start on the Bantam's basebaîl season we have slippedto 4 +2. Our first loss came on Monday, June 29th to Newcastle by the score of 5 - 3. STAR 0F THE GAME- Jeff Scholl did a bang-up job on the mount, only allowing 4 runs during 3 innings and also got 2K's. During the 4th inning Jeff sent an over the fence homerun into deep left. Our second loss came on Wednesday, July lSth to Pontypool, 8 - 6. The losing pitcher, Alan Lee, was knocked Council Briefs The General Purpose committee bas given approval of a modification to the Newcastle Officiai Plan (Orono Secondary Plan) recognizing that a proposed subdivision by Aleck Moffat be included in the Orono Plan. It was noted that the Town bad asked for a special exception to allow tbe proposai to proceed. The Region bas asked that the proposai be included in an expansion of the Orono Secondary Plan. To this end on Monday the Genieral Purpose committee gave their approval. The plan of sub-division was first presented to counicil in 1986. The Town committee was informed that the redesignation of the Wilmot Community as Urban would not affect remiovai of rural subsidies fromr Ontario Hydro. The Wiimot community bad shown a concerni that they may loose the hydro rebate if the comipiex was designated urban rather thani rural. l'he Town issued a total of 72 building permnits in June bringing the total for the year to 675 comnparinig witb 447 iii the ýame around for six runs off six bits.
