Our guys looked like they'd spent too many late nights up watching those Toronto Blue Jays gamnes, but thien wbo could blame themi! Carnation came out flying in the first period peppering goalie Dusty Stapleton with shot after shot. lnevitably persistence paid off' as tie visitors scored their first of four mnarkers on the nigbt at 7:54 of tbe first period. Orono came roaring back *however as Captain Greg Shetier Kirkbride put themn ahead 7-4. National Trust neyer gave up and scored in the last minute of play making the final score 7-5 for Orono Camnsport. Coach Rob Brant was quoted as saying, "A great effort by the Whole team." Greg was sent in the clear by Mark Fletcher and lie made no mistake with a fine foreband deke shot to the corner. Unfortunately this secem-ed to ignite Carnation as they potted two more goals in the second framne to leadi 3-1. The visitors put the gamne out of reach for Major Plumbing when they went ahead 4-1, at 9:08 of the third. Orono didn't comnpletely roll over and play dead. As Greg S-'hetler scored bis second of the gamne at 14:11 of the final frame assisted by Wingers Mark Fletcher and Andrew Beacock. It wasn't quite enougb however, as the score remained 4-2 in favour of the visitors. One of the highlights of the game was a strong performance of the blueline by defencemnan Greg Bester. On Sunday, October 25 Major, Plumbing visited Bowmanville to play Family Trust for their third league game of the early season. Our guys bad their work cut out for tbemn as they encounitered big numnber il (ex-Orono player> Alan Robb, wbo proved to be Orono's scoring nemesis in this contest. Alan hiad a strong performance and led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist to catapult bis teamn to a 4-1 win over Major Plumnbing. Orono actually opened the scoring witb tbe lone marker going to centre Matt McGlynn at 7:55 of the first. t was a nice solo effort as Matt broke loose from the blueline and fired a low wrist shot to the corner. Prom then on it was the 'Alan Robb' show, as hled the way for Family Trust to score 4 straight goals. Actually it was 2-1 contest rigbt up till 3:40 of the third. Our guys will be better prepared to take this team on next time, l'm sure. On the positive side, Orono got steady performances on the blueline from defencemien Corey Tufts and Paul Landers. t sbould be noted at this time that our coaching staff bas been expanded to include the talents of Jason Major. Welcome aboard Jason! Also this week we're introducing a new feature - a player profile if you will. This week we're profiling left Winger Andrew Beacock. Andrew wears number 17 for bis club. This season he enters bis 4tb year in the 'Big Leagues'. He was born on August 17, 1982. Andrew had quite a successful season last year on the Major Novice team as be was the fourtbh ighest scorer. He shoots left and bas a devastating rising wrist shot at close range. Andrew's favourite hockey player is Wayne Gretzky and be expecs The Orono Roughley Insurance Novice hockecy teamn openied their regular lea-gue schiedule on Friday evening at the Orono arena against a strong teamn fromi Sunderland. The opposing teams experience and good passing plays proved too mnuch for the local boys as they camle up ofl the wrong end of a 7 to, 0 score. The Orono team was out huIstled miost of the night and lfailed to, give Glencoe Hogle i the Orono net much protection. Glencoe did make several good saves in the latter balf of the gamne when holding Sunderland to just, one goal in the third period. The line of Jake Bonnetta, Scott Wood and Janiie Rowe provided the best scoring chances for the Orono squad but were unable to finish off their play around the net. On Sunday afternoon the team travelled to, Millbrook for the next game in their schedule. Fired up by their earlier loss the boys carne out skating hard but still camne up short early in the gamne when Millbrook scored with just over a minute gone. Not to be outdone, Orono came storming back forty- five seconds later on a nifty three way passing play with Matt Reid scoring assisted by Justin Standeven and Jeff Tbompson. Twelve seconds later Scott Wood to be picked in the June draft of, 2000 for bis favourîte hockey team - the Chicago Blackhawks. Andrew tbinks Pittsburg will win the Stanley Cup in 1993. We expect Andrew to have a banner season in the scoring department this year. Netgamne for Major Plumbing is Thursday, October 29 at Orono arena. Sec you there! scored unassisted on a long F fromn just inside the bluelne,- give Orono the lead. Millbrook managed to ne the score before the period ended. Orono scored once more early in the second period wben Tyson Gimblett fooled the Millbrook goalie on an unassisted effort for bis first goal of the season. A top goaltending performance by Lee Allun throughout the gaine was not quite enough as Millbrook tied the gaine once more before the second period ended. A scoreless third period left the game tied 3 to 3. The Orono squad had to do some extensive lime juggling for the last, haif of the game after Glencoe Hogle suffered a shoulder injury when he crashed into the boards behind the -Orono net. He had been playing extremely well on the Orono defense up to that point and will be badly missed for the next three weeks as be recuperates.
