Dear Editor Re: Metro Solid Waste As a co-iandowner in Boston ToWnship, site of the Adam's Mine/Notre ,Development Proposai, I can understand the resistance of the adjacent areas to Metro's garbage disposai in their areas. l'cani understand because we, residents of the unorganized townships are having Metro's garbage forced on us by adjacent Municipalities that stand to profit at our expense. Since we have no voice that can reach the populous Darlington engineers make for Romania Two Ontario Hydro employees from the Darlington Generating station are to be on the move to a Romanian project along with some 350 Canadîan workers. The team will assist with the completion of a Candu 600 megawatt reactor and station about 200 kiiometers outside of Bucharest. Rent ais units bard to find While rentai units in the Region of Durham and especially in the southern area are becoming more availabie and bas a vacancy rate of over. 6 percent it is not the case in Cobourg and Port Hope. Vacancy rates in the two towns have been dropping over the past months resting at 4.9 and 4.7 percent, respectiveiy. of the Greater Toronto Area, we are effectively muffled if not gagged. SThe Anti-Garbage Coalition a sked 1100 people in the aiea, "Do you want Toronto's Garbage?" and received a resounding NO, from over 60% of the respondents. The Municipalîty of Kirkland Lake, in a non-binding Municipal Question, asked a carefuily formulated question, "Are you in favour of a full environmental assessment of the Adam's Mine Solid 'waste Disposai and Recycling Project?" To this question, the pro forces would vote yes with the hope of brmnging the project to fruitation while the anti-group would aiso vote yes to ensure that should, the projeci advance, the assessment would flot be exempted on the basis of a Municipal No vote. The people of Southem Ontario have been told that Kirkland Lake is a willing host, what they are not told, is that the site is not in au area controlled by Kirkland Lake,' Larder Lake, or Englehart. The area of Boston Township does not fit S.WE.A.P.'s description of a willing host, "A landowner andior Municipality who offers a site they own or control." Kîrkland Lake continues its attempts t0 annex or amalgamate up to 44 adjacent unorganized townships to inflate it's tax base and tneet the willing host criteria. Metro, first Reduce, then Reuse, then Recycle. Solve probims, don't salve themr. Yours sincerely, William Dennis Orone Weekly Mmes, Wednesday, De
