Howlett Grinch hits Port Hope home The Newcastle Famnily Connection held an Open Hlouse, for their Interaction Program, on Thursday afternoon. The Interaction Program encourages time for interaction between parent and child. The program is held every Tuesday and Thursday in the Newcastle Community Hall. At ieast ten to fourteeni parents and up to thirty chidren take part in tbe program. Tuesday and Thursday momnings are the busiest. The crafts and workshops offered are changed periodically, and there is a large variety of toys and games available. As part of their ever expanding program, the Newcastle Famiiy Connection wili begin ballet classes for three to five year olds and a dancercise class for parents and children. These classes will be held every Thursday afternoon Natives angry with Board The local public school board could lose many of its native students and a yearly revenue of $400,000 to its Catholic counterpart. After being turned down twice in two years for native representation of a trustee on the Public Board members of the Alderville First Nation reserve are threatening to pull out their students from the public system. The band council bas approached the Separate Schooi Secondary schooi who, it is reported, wouid weicome them with open arms. The myove couid corne even though the Separate board does not have a native trustee. B3ecause natives liing on a reserve do flot pay property or school taxes tbey are not alowed to vote for trustecs. In Ontario, if there is more than 100 students within the jurisdiction of a board the board is required to have a Native trustee. With fewer than 100 students boards cari have a native trustee if so they wish. In Northumberland and Newcastle systemn there are soure 70 students from Aldervilie who attend the public school system. Police reported that someone, had kicked in a rear door of a home and made off with about $5000 worth of property including Christmas presents. Also stolen were jewellery, liquor and clothing.
