Friday evening Orono hosted Manvers for the first time this season. Chris Kirkbride opened the scoring in the first period unassisted from close in on the Manvers goal. Jamie Rowe added to the score midway through the second assisted by Jake Bonnetta. Matt Reid made the score 3 b o0 with only six seconds left in the second period as he jumped ini from his point position to pick up a loose puck. Captain Brandon Hilis scored early in the third period when he picked up the puck in the Orono end and rushed the length of the ice to beat the Manvers goalie cleanîy. With the victory in sight Orono scored twice more in the final thirty seconds of the game. Chris Kirkbride with his second of the game assisted by Collin Cureatz and Justin Standeven and Collin Cureatz assisted by Jef Thompson made the final score Qrono 6, Manvers 0. Lee Allin in the Orono goal did not have a lot of work but was there whenever he was called on to record his first shutout of the season. In Brighton early Saturday morning for a toumnament Orono faced a strong Belleville select team in their first match of the day. Orono scored first when Chris Kirkbride knocked in a rebound of a shot by Jamie Rowe also assisted by Jeff Thompson. Unfortunately this seemed to wake up the Belleville team and Orono found themselves down 6 to 1 before Scott Wood scored assisted by Kyle Moore and Jeff Thompson with one second left in the second period. The third period was again c ontrolled by Belleville with Orono managing only one more goal by Colin Cureatz assisted by Matt Reid to make the final score 8 to 3 for Belleville. Advancing to the B side of the tourney we faced Brighton for our second gaine. The home team tLook advantage of several opportunities given too themn to build up a 4 to O lead at the end of the second Period. Orono finally came to life in the third with Matt Reid scoring assisted by Kyle Moore and Collin Cureatz and Jeff Thompson assisted by Matt Reid and Scott Wood which closed the gap to two. It was not enough however as a determined Brighton team jumped on every opportunity to build their lead. Collin Cureatz scored assisted by Kyle Moore and Matt Reid midway through the third period and Scott Wood assisted by Brandon Hilîs and Collin Cureatz closed out the scoring in the game but the final score was Brighton 8, Orono 4. On Sunday afternoon we travelled to Stouffville to resume our league play. The team was fortunate to get a little pre-game inspiration and somne autographs from former Leaf greats Sid Smith, Carl Brewer and Frank Mahovolich who were gracions enough to leave a Christmas party in the next dressing room to comne i and speak to the boys and shake hands. As the game started Orono jumped to the attack resulting in a goal by Scott Wood assisted by Jamie Rowe and Jake Bonnetta at twenty-one seconds of the first period. In the second period Jeff Thompson scored twice, assisted by Kyle Moore and Chris Kirkbride on the first and Kyle Moore and Collin Cureatz on the second. Stouffville got one goal back in the third before Jeff Thompson scored his third goal of the game, assisted again by Kyle Moore. A brief defensive lapse allowed a Stouffville breakaway and goal before the game ended but a muchi better tearn effort than on Saturday coupled with solid goaltending by Glencoe Hogle resulted ini a 4 10 2 win for Orono. We have only one more gamne Wednesday evening against Millbrook before we take a break from hockey for Christmas. Major passes Hutton Transport for 4-3 win in, BRHL Atom Division play Major Plumbing travelled to Bowmanville on December 2th to meet Hutton Transport in a league contes t. Capped by a 4 point performance from centre Brandon Caruana, Major slipped by Hutton in a 4-3 decision. Scoring for Major was Winger Shawn Ferguson assisîed by Brandon Caruana. Major's second goal was a breakaway assisted by Shawn Ferguson. Major's third goal was scored again by Brandon Caruana assisted by winger Andrew Beacock. The two teams battled iL out back and forth with the score tieti at 3-3 haLe in the third period. With just seconds left in the gamne, Andrew Beacock found the mark assisted by Brandon Caruana to give his team the victory. December l7th Major hosted an Oshawa litte NHL team entry incxhibitioQtIplayand dropped a 4- O decision. Major just couldn't geL on track offensively as they only managed a few shots on goal. They'll be botter prepared to 'even the score' on their return visit to Oshawa. Clint Hawkshaw is this week's featured player. Clint's birthdate is March 31, 1981 and he wears number 5 on his sweater. This is Clint's seventh year in the bigs'. Clint has good 'whecls' and takes a regular shift at right wing. However, Clint's coaches have been known to use Clint as a centre at limes because of his speed. and aggressive fore checking abilities. Clint's working hiard in practice on stick handling skills and shooting. Clint's coaches look to himn to provide good offence as well as in a penalty killing role down the stretch. Clint thinks it will be Chicago Blackhawks alI the way in 1993 Steve Gregg, age 6, son of Steve and Peggy Gregg. Jesse Price, age 7, son of Ron and Julie Price. Kienan Williams, age 7, son of Andrea Williams. Four Durham College students suspended Four students at Durham College have been suspended for the remainder of the school year. The four have admitted their involvement in a failed attempt to steal examination questions from a locked office at the College. Oshawa Centre plans expansion The Oshawa Centre expects to undertake a long-awaited expansion of their facilities in the City. A formai announcement is expected early in January ftrm the new owners whor purchased t he Centre from Caffipeau. It is to be a major renovation. with good goaitending provided by his favourite hockey star Ed Balfour. The coaching staff would like to wish the players and parents a happy and safe holiday season! The Orono J & M Custoin Framing Tykes came home winners of the "B Championship" from the Rice Lake Hockey Association tournament held in Bewdley on December 19th. The first game was played against J & M'sarch rivals, the Newcastle Golf Course. The Orono J & M Custom Framing Tykes lost this match 4-1. Curtis Robinson scored the lone Orono goal, assîsted by Jesse Price. Nathan Adegeest was awarded "Player of the Game" for his strong defensive play. Orono J & M Custom Framîng Tykes easily beat Baltimore Spoolens 18-2 ini the second game. Curtis Robinson scored eleven goals and Nathan Adegeest earned a hat-trick. Jesse Price scored his first goal of the season in style, also drawi ng a hat-trick. The most exciting part of the gaine occurred when the smallest player on our team, Stevie Gregg, scored his first goal of the season. The crowd game Stevie a standing ovation and he was awarded "Player of the Gaine". The third and final gaine for the "B Championship" was played against another familiar teain, the Newcastle # 2. The Orono team was extremely focused and committed to playing their best to win this game. The Newcastle"- team recognized the threat posed by Curtis Robin son and tried to shut down Orono's offense by double-teaming hlm and playing a very rough game. However, the Orono teain simply pulled together and played as one cohesive unit winning the championship game 4-O. Nathan Adegeest scored three goals for Orono and Kienan Williams scored his first goal of the season. Curtis Robinson and Nathan Adegeest shared "Player of the Garne" honours. A special note of appreciation goes to the team's goalie, Kyle Cox, who played three great games. Kyle thinks it's "Awesome" being a goalie. Congratulations to all the players for their hard work and inspirational team play. The tearn wishes to thanik their Coach Brian Allin for his patience and kind guidance.
