This otiier kind of nuisance mail demands that you send silly things to people you seldom even know. Sometimes they are called book clubs, dishtowel clubs, or there are the more brazen ones which guarantee lifelong happiness, only after 'buying into' the chain. Usually, it's a 'well-meaning' co-worker or a fourth cousin twice removed that welcornes you into the fold. They want you to share in their good fortune. Just do what you are told, and then when your name moves to the top of the five thousand already listed, you are guaranteed to receive a gazillion 'how-to' books, dish towels, or better still, dollars ... if nobody breaks the chain." This is the key point. ."if nobody breaks the chain." While there usually is a disclaimer stating that "this is not a chain. It's just for fun", ai the end of the friendly, fun little note, you are told that if you don't play' the game, you and your family will be cursed with death, disease and poverty for generations to corne. But, 1 once received a chain letter from a friend, that tickled my funny bones. It's FOR WOMEN ONLY. "This letter was started by a woman like yourself, in the hope of bringing relief to other tired and discontented wornen. Unlike most chain letters, this one does not cost anything. Just send a copy of this letter to five of your friends who are equally frustrated; then bundle up your husband or boyfriend and send him to the woman whose narne appears at the top of this list and add your narne to, the bottomn of the list. When your name cornes to the top of the list, you will receive 16,877 men - . one of them is bound to be a- hell of a lot better than the one you already have. DO NOT BREAK THE CHAIN!! One wornan broke the chaîn and got hier man back. At ibis writing, a friend of mine already received 384 men. They buried her yesterday; but it took three undertakers 36 hours to get the srnile off lier face and two days to get bier legs together so tbey could close the coffin. Hurry up and send this letter along so my name can move up fast!" Tbis is one chain letter that was a welcome respite from the usual bills, bis, more bills and junk mail that is stuffed into my mailbox! And, the post office is rubbing its bands with glee! Even ai 3rd class postage rates, -the volume of Makt moving across the land wil surely put Canada Post in the black for years. fde D3utch Carpentry CUSTOM HOME -BUILDING RENO VATIONS 'Small Jobs and Large l'lTake Charge" 1-705-277-2397 JOE H.
