At Kirby United Church Ellen Carol Graham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merili Graham, received the sacrament of Baptismn. The Couples Club held a short executive meeting and their activities for this season will close with a bowling get together on Saturday May 28th. The Director of the Orono Chamber of Commerce gave approval on Monday evening to the sponsoring of an Apple Blossom tour. hInconnection with this tour arrangements have been made for a tour of the Tree Nursery in Orono, routing cars north Lo Leskard and along the scenic route to Mosport with possible arrangements to drive around the track and thmough the Ganaraska Forests, Tower Hill, the Dell and Kendal. May 1956 A successful bake sale and afternoon tea was held in the basement of the Orono United Church on Saturday afternoon, April 28th. The sale and tea was sponsored by the Evening Auxiliary. On Frîday and Sat urday, May 11lth and l2th a basebaîl school will bc held in the Village of Orono. The school is being held for the the benefit of coaches and, players alike and anyone interested mnay attend the course free of charge. The annual tree planting and forest conservation was held at' the Ganaraska Forest recently. 350 Boy Scouts planted 10,000 white and red pine on sub- marginal land in the forest which is managed by the Ministry of Lands and Forests. The bale is being packed at 2 pin that day. The Orono Initermediate Basebail Club plays their first scheduled gamne of the season tonighit, Thursday, at the Orono Park. The Lindsay team will b-e on hand for the opener. The presentation of "Dear Ruth" by the Orono Players is but one week away. This two-act comedy consisting of six scenes will be staged in the Township Hal, Orono, Friday and Saturday, June 8th and 9th. The curtain will rise at 8:30 pm. The final meeting of the Clarke Township Teacher's Association, for this school year, was held on May 22, in the Sunday School room of the Kendal United Churcli, The Kendal W.A. served a lovely pidnic lunch Lu the teachers. Members of the Orono Public School Trustee Board met on Monday evening in the Orono School when they discussed accommodation for the additional class room to bc opened for the Public School this year. It was feit that rearranging the space in the basement that die fourth room may bc, placed in this area of the building. The Orono Sunday School of the Orono United Church observed their School Anniversary on Sunday moming, May 27th. The youngsters assembled at 10:45 outside the church and marched around the business block of the Village led by the O rono Band. Training course Iead to jobs A new home child care training program is being offered in Cobourg for a six week period., The course is funded by the federal government and is open to those on welfare. Following the completion of the course the recipients would be qualified to work at a day-care centre or set-up their own child care program in their own homes.
