The students of St. Francis are- busily pouring over beakers, bunsen bumners, electronies and other scientific equipment, preparing for the annual Science Fair. The fair will be held on March 3. The school will be having two Ash Wednesday services today. But before this individual classes had pancakes ta celebrate Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday. Re/Max, Frank, Goodyear, CIBC, Durham Central Fair, the Optimist Club, and the Firefighters were just a few of the groups that took part. The money also assists the Big Brothers program with the screening and matching program. There are currently 20 active matches. Nine young boys are currently awaiting a match. The alley lime was generously donated by Liberty Bowl of Bowmanville. The day proved to be a great success. Retail Sales Tax to be applied to telecommunie ations services The Ministry of Revenue hias announced that retail sales tax (RST) will soon be charged on die resale of certini telecommru- nications services. "Large carriers with network facilities have always been required to charge tax on thecir sales," said Shelley Wark- Martyn, Miniister of Revenue. "However, after die deregulation of the telecommunications industry, smaller companies that itsell tiiese services, but do flot have network facilities, were formned. These businesses have been treated as consumers and have not been required to charge their customners tax. Instead, they have beenl paying the sales tix when purchasing these ser- vices froin die carriers. By mak- ing it necessary for these smnall- er companies to now charge RST, we will bc creating a le vel playing field for all retailers of telecommunications services."
