Oromo Weekly Mimes, W.dneday, March 17, 1993 -Jil 7777"'Many, skiers wun at .. ....w N...nv.... match anduwn eve nt Many of our fieiy Newtonville residents came to the Committee of Clarke Constituents meeting on Tuesday night of last week to show their defiance for the very idea of a dump in their community. This of course is a feature story this week, SO 1 won't go into detail here. It just is good to scee 5 many taking an active part in their communty. Weil, its March Break. The kids are out of school and no doubt enjoying what we might hope to be the last of this year's winter. Drive carefully, kids aren't always as cautious as they should be when they are enjoymng a week free of school and books. Kinsmen iBantams take a 2-1 series Iead The Bowmanville Kinsmen Minor Bantams lost gaine two of their playoff series against, Ajax, but bounced back in gamne three to take a 2-1 series lead. In the first game, the Toros came out flat against the Ajax team and if not for Jeff Parry in goal, the score would have been greater than 2-1. Time after time, the Toros' defence allowed the Ajax forwards to bet themn to the puck and only somne heroic goaliending from Parry kept the score close. t was in the second period, with Bowmanville a man short, that Ajax finally beat him to take a 1-0 lead. This was the only goal until 2 minutes before th end of the game when somne sloppy defence allowed themn to score again. The Toros prevented the shutout when Ryan Dunlnigan put the puck past the Ajax gofle with 6 seconds left on the c!ock. Assisting on the goal were Greg McMurter and Matt Staey. Game 2 was a much better gaine,,with the Toros in a tougher frame of mind. Cameron Millar was in goal for the Toros and although he did not have too much to do in the first ten, minutes. He did pull off a spectacular save with about 2 minutes left and froin this the Toros broke out from their own end, to open the scoring, when Gregg McMurter took a pass in the siot from Ryan Dunnigan and New balance needed in the 90s Waterfront and greenland strategist David Crombie says that people who want to save the environment and those who are promoting economic development have te work together to ensure both the environmient and the economy survive. He used the former Soviet Union as an example. An industrial development agenda was developed that resulted in horrible environmental problemns. Billions of dollars will need to be spent to get back to where they started before they can think about rebuilding the economy. He noted on the other hand that people can't survive without food and shelter. As an example of conservation movements hie showed a photo of the Ganiaraska in the 30s after clear-cut logging, which spawned a movement. blasted it'past the Ajax keeper. This was the beginning of the end for Ajax as the Toros scored twice more before the end of the period on goals by Dunnigan and Nick Hand. Assisting on the goals were McMurter, Paul Lavallee and Jason Bray. The Toros scored again in the third, when McMurter and Matt Staley assisted Dunnigan on his second goal. The team sceemed to coast after this and penalties cost them as Ajax scored two goals in the third to make the final score 4- 2. The Toros wrapped up their series againist Ajax on Suniday night when they travelled to Ajax and came away with a 3-0 win. The Toros completely domninated the Ajax team in this final game and some spectacular goaltending from Jeff Pari-y eared him th e shutout. The Kinsmen teare got a goal in each period, one each from McMurter, Derek Arnold and Adam Millar with assists from Dunnigan, Arnold and Tony Butzr. Paul Lavallee, playing on defence in place of regular defencemnan Eric Zuvic, played a very strong gaine for the Toros. The Mfinor Bantains now go on to meet Newmarket in theý next round of the York/Simcoe playoffs.
