J&M tourney champs with good start in playoff action SThe J&M Custom Framing Tykes were victorious at their final hockey tournament of the season, winning the "B" Charnpionship of the Tim Horton's Snowball Express Tyke Hockey Tournanient held i Trenton, Ontario on March 15-16, 1993. The first gamne was played at 9:00 a.m. Monday against one of Trenton's better teams, State Farin Insurance. J&M Custom Framing won this gamne by a score of 9-3. The Orono team played a very good passing, game. Curtis Robinson notched, five goals during thîs game., Nathan Adegeest, Jordan Beacock and Jesse Price scored one goal each. Paul Richter, a six year old Mite brought up to play with J&M Customn, scored his first goal of the season as a Tyke player, assisted by Jordan Beacock. The second match-up was held in the afternoon against Trenton Ireland. The first period of play was very strong, with Trenton getting the first goal midway through the period. However, J&M Custom came back with a vengeance, taking no prisoners with a winning, score of 11 -1. Curtis Robinson was a dominant forcescoring seven, goals. Nathan Adegeest marked two goals and play-maker Jordan Beacock scored one goal and earned three assists. The second Mite player brought up to round out the ranks of the Orono tearn - five year old Chris Campbell, scored his first goal of the season as a Tyke during the third period of this game. The third game of the tournament took place on Tuesday morning against the Kingston Kinwu Tykes. The J&M Custom Frarning Tykes won by a score of 5-1. Jordan Beacock scored two goals in this game. Kyle Cox, Chris Moffat, and Curtis Robinson notched one goal each. This third win clinched a championship playoff spot for dhe Orono team, but with sixteen teais in the tournament, a somewhat complicated formula of goals for and against was used to determine final placement in the "A", "B" or "C" Championship games. t was eventually determined that J&M Custom Framing Tykes would play in the "B" Championship against #513 Belleville. With Bowmanville's Shopper's Drug Mart cheering the Orono team on, J&M Custom Framing Tykes won the "B" Championship of the Tim Horton's Snowball Express 1993 by a score of 5-2. Curtis Robinson scored a hat- trîck in this close game. Nathan Adegeest and Jesse Price rounded out the scoring for J&M Custom Framing Tykes. Congratulations to Kevin Martin and Kyle Cox who did a fine job sharing goaltending duties in the tournament. Chris Moffat and Kyle Allini played aggressive gaines going after the puck and setting up plays for the goal- scorers. Jesse Price and Kienlan Williams played strong defence, with Kienan protecting the point and Jesse chasîng the-puck mbt corners. Jordan Beacock had strong tournament and was presented with a NHL hockey pin by one of the assistant coaches for his outstanding play. A special appreciation is extended to Mite players Chris Campbell and Paul Richter who joined J&M Custom Framing Tykes for this toumnament (many of the regular players were away on holidays). The first playoff gaine was held March 20, 1993 in the Newcastle arena against Beaver Lumber. J&M Custom Framing Tykes defeated Beaver Lumber by a score of 8-4. Jesse Price scored two quick goals early in the second period. Chris Moffat and Kyle Allin played strong offense earning two assists in this game. J&M Custom Framing Tykes were defeated for the first tureni more than twenty games on Sunday, March 21, 1993 by Tim's RentaI in the Second playoff gaine. Curtis Robinson scored J&M Custom 's first goal one minute into the game, however Tim's RentaI scored the next three goals to take the lead. J&M fought back with two goals from Curtis, and a goal by Jesse Price and Stevie Gregg to regain a 5-4 Iead at the end of the second period. Early in the third period, Tim's Rental scored a powerplay goal to tie the gaine. Tim's RentaI scored again with five minutes left in the game, and eventually won the match by à score of 7-5. Later that day, Orono's J&M Custom Framing Tykes won their third playoff gaine in Orono arena against A&R Flooring by a score of 7-2. Tyler Gregg opened the scoring one minute into the game on a pass by Curtis Robinson. Chris Mo ffat scored the second Orono goal three minutes later assisted by Nathan Adegeest. A&R Flooring scored to make the gaine 2- 1.
