Newcastle Library offering Eager Reader Club Due to the success of past years, the Newcastle Public Library is pleased to offer the Eager Reader Clubagain this summer. Vision and Hearing Screening Clinic Parents in Durham Region who have children registering for Kindergarten in the Northumberland -and Newcastle Board of Education,'1993-1994 school year, are invited to a Vision and Hearing Screening Clinic. Registered nurses from the Durham Region Health Departmnent will be conducting Vision and Hearing Screening Clinics in various locations in lat.e spring. Parents wilI ho provided with information to assist in booking an appointment to attend the clinic during registration at the school. If a child's visionlhearing has been tested within the past year, or an appointment is scheduled'in the near'future, attendance at the screening dlinic is not required. This screening is only offered to children before they enter school. The purpose of the screening clinic 15 10 identify any vision or hearing problems which may affect/interfere with a child's learning abilities.1 Once identified, corrective measures can ho taken. In -addition to vision and hearing screening, parents are requested 10 bring their child's immunization record to the school- on registration day or to the screening clinic. Immunization information is essential, as required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, R.S.O. 1990, cI.1, Section 8 (1). 'Lost and Found"e2 exhibit to beheld at Visual Arts Centre In recognition of United Nations World Environment Week, the Visual Arts Centre is pleased to present an exhibition of artwork produced from found objects and recycled materials. Elementary school students have been invited to participate in the Upstairs Gallery Show, where pieces may ho entered on a first- come basis, up 10 approximately 100 works. The Mill Gallery will feature an exhibition of artists' work based upon the related theme of rethinldng the environent.
