There is ho doubt it wil be well used over the next couple of months. How many tries will it take before the govemment finally gels OHIP righit. The issuing of personal hecalth cards was, in itseif, a fine idea. However, the way the switch overwas done was indeed flawed. H-ealth cards have been issued to, dead people, people who do not reside in Ontario, illegal immigrants, pretty rnuch anyone who asked for one. Meanwhile, born and raised in Ontario, my Health Card did not cone. Every other persor. namned on the application received their card. I waited by the mailbox, but to no avail. Finally, I took matters into my own hands and went to see the good folks at the OHIP-office. I was immediately given a temp card and told my real card would follow shortly. Happily it did. Fortunately, 1 have had no reason to try on my new card for size in the past couple of years. Truth is I'm afraid to sec what could be on it. I don't lend my card out. But it's possible, isn't it, that someone out tbere bas my number. The idea of a photo ID makes perfect sense to me. The only question I have is .- . why dîdn't they think of this to begin with? Pretty much every forrn of ID we use has a photo and a number of personal stats ranging from age to height. The numnber of people who take advantage of our health care system is staggering. On the subject of the present economic situation, Shepherd says "Economies are sornewhat like roller-coasters, they go up and down over history. I don't have to tell you that the rides over the last nine years of Tory rule have been ail down hill." Regarding the Free-Trade Agreement Shepherd believes, "the Conservatives have forced.us into the Free-Trade Agreement with the United States, then further into another one involving Mexico. Indeed, il should be called the North American Forced Trade Agreemnit. " Shepheýrd believes that for cconornie recovery we should "look at a complete restructuring of Canadian small businesssector, w here there is a partnership between business, government workers and financial institutions.*' "It is time to become invoived in the match to Ottawa.
