Allinbrooôk Feeds did flot fare quite so well in the Town of Newcastle Tyke Basebali Tournament held September 18 and 19, 1993 at the Orono Park. The Orono team played four games with two wins and two losses. Allinhbrook Feeds 7, Shoppers Drug Mart 4 Allinbrook Feeds had home field advantage in the first game against Shoppers Drug Mart. Glencoc Hogle had a great outing as pitcher earning five strike-outs. Bryan Bickcll and Jeff Mercier botb caught fly bails for outs in the third and fourth innings. Lee Aluin made a double play in the fifth inning by catching a pop-fly and touching first base for the force play out. Josh Brandt bit in the winning run of the gaine. Newcastle had a 2-0 lead, the bases were loaded with no one out, when Mercier proceeded to strike-out the next three batters, permitting no scoring opportunities. D.J. Boardman then went out and bit a two-run home-run in the fifth. inning to get us back in the game. Bryan B ickcll also bit a triple. Then in the fifth inning Wade Peacock went 1/3 inniings lcttîng in 3 runs, Tomas Wakefield came in, in relief for 1-2/3 innings stiking out 5 of 7 batters he faced, letting in three runs, for Orono to sail to a 10-5 wmn. The next game, was for September 11lth as the C&C Motors teain forfeited 7-0, which boosted Orono's record to 11-4-1, ending tbe regular scason la 3rd. Our first playoff game was against the C&C Motors team which wc won 8-2. Brett Maartense was tbe starting pitcher and struck out 6 blaters during 3 innings, allowing'no runs, Alan Lee came on in the fourth to strike out 2, while allowing a single run. Tomas Wakefield carnein for the 6the to finish off the game while allowing the only other run, offense was generated from everyone with ail but 1 getting on base. This first wla put us in the "A" division ncxt up was Shoppers Drug Mart., Shoppers surpriscd us winning 8-2. Our offense was slow as we had 5 hits total. Not cnough bits, too many walks and erors cost us this game. Brett struck out 5 during 2 sets, and allowing 2 runs. Alan struck ont 3 dwring 2 sets as well, next up was Tomas who struck out 4 during 3 scoreless innings. That was only 1 game lost, though, and we weren't but yet, the next game was against Courtice Oreenaways, but again wcre out played, as we had way too many mrors, there were 7 bits for each team but their's found the hoies. Ini the 7th nmig Orono started to corne alive, scoring 3 of 4 runs. It looked like a comcback but was denicd as we ran out <of gas, afler 3 gaines that day alone. The final score 9-4 loss.
