Toro's begin season with two wins and a tie by Helen MacDonald I've had the 24-hour flue, or some other nasty interna] ailment ... for the last 168 hou rs. And it's still going! So I cannot be held responsible for anything 1 write. I have been unable to eat much but jello or crackers. Adept in the art of jello-making, my family has kept the fridge well-stocked with orange jello, red jello, green jello and blue jello. 'Blue' jello? Yup! Blue stuff jiggling in the face of an ill person . .. a good idea? Nope! On Sunday, my family arrived for a Thanksgiving Feats which I spent the day lovingly preparinÉ . . and I unable to consume much. What I did eat . . . well, Sunday night consisted of many long, painful journeys to the bathroom. When I have gotten a burst of strength during the past week, 1 attended classes at Trent, and I've thrown in the odd load of laundry. Vve managed to get lunches made and packed for my two children. Other than that, V've pretty much lost my devotion to family and enthusiasms to household.chorus. In fact, they are taking 'care of me and are picking up the slack. . . or, we arc alI turning a blind eye to unfolded laundry (one can pick clean underwear straight out of the basket) and dusty furniture. And all the while, my little darling, Garrett, is a great source of entertainment. One evening last week, we decided to watch a programme on wild hogs. Garrett had been inquiring Just a few weeks ago whiether or not they lived in North America, s0 I was hoping the Programme would give us some insigh't into this question. Well, it did. and then some! Early in the programme we discovered that wild hogs roam vast regions in the United States. They arrived with Columbus., We also discovered that he narrator/producer of the programme, had a great fascination for the sexuality of the wild hog; particularly with regard to eh distinctive,'cork- screwing' technique of the penis during copulation. S "What's 1'copulation', mommy?", inquires Garrett who keeps his eyes fast glued to the television. Don't you love these $64,O00 words? On Saturday I had a few errands to run in Oshawa. Midway through the trip, I popped into my parents house for short rest. Garrett decided to have a banana. Then, with naked banana in one hand, and peel in the other, 1 watched him search high and low in the kitchen for something . .. a compost bucket. When he couldn't find one, he askecl me where it was. I told him Grandma didn't have one.,lHe would have to put his peel into her garbage. "I'm not putting this value into the garbage!", he declared. "You take it, mommy, and we can compost it at home." Most mothers carry wallets, kleenex, a few small toys, aspirin, etc. in their purses. 1 carry bottle caps, tin cans, broken glass, banana pcecs . .. and aspirin. 1 think l'Il go take some. A Major cuiprit, and one which is often poorly understood by medical practitioners, is the food we eat. Allergie reactions to foods can affect the function of any organ or system and cause a wide variety of physical and mental disorders. Food allergy is often, responsible for disturbances in the mouth, andstomnachproblems like ulcers and indigestion. t can cause gali bladder attacks, ulcers, colitis and gas. Food allergy can affect the eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, throat, bronchial tubes and lungs.- Lt is a major factor in arthritis, causes headaches, weakness, fatigue, Palpitations, and severe itching with no visible skin problems. Lt can cause growing pains, abdominal pain, bed- wetting and hyperactivity in many allergie children. Braîn reactions may cause nervousness, restlessness, irritability, unprovoked anger, dizzy speils, light headedness, withdrawal, inability to concentrate, poor memory, learning disabilities, mood swings, psychotic behaviour and schizophrenia. Many people, ill over a long period of time due to the cumulative toxin-producing effects of eating offending foods, have had tranquilizers prescribed. Their doctors simply do not understand the mechanies of food allergy, and do not even know that this condition exists. The addiction/allergy response was a point of major interest in the evening's lecture. Apparently, the most freýquiitly eaàteni foods in the diet are usually responsible for most Of dthe symptoms due to food allergy. If we look at the idea that (Continued page 12)
