Boy Scouts open Christmas gifi store Rachel Fraser, Shelley Einanski and Sarah Fraser promote possible Christmas Gifts at the Christmas sbop in Orono opened by the local Scouting graups. The lst Orono Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers, are now open for business. They are currently selling Christmas crafts and home decoratio ns ta raise money for a variety of upcoming events. Their store is located on Main Street, Orono, and will bc open every weekend until Christmas. Upcoming events include the Scouts Great Lakes Jamboree, on July 16 - 20. The Beavers will be attending, a 2th Anniversary next September at the SkyDome. This coming summer, a Pernnsylvania Exchange wil occur between the Orono Scouts and a Pennsylvania Scout troop. The Pennsylvania Scouts will be staying with the Orono Scouts over a long weekend. Funds will alsa be used for the purchase of new tents. Margaret Bradley and Margaret Lofgren, areca-chairs of the committee and will be running the store. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers, wÎil work at the store in full dress every weekend. Last weekend the featured articles were dried flower arrangements. This weekend there will bc a special Beaver bake sale. In upcaming weeks look for the specials ta include Poinsettias and Christmas cactus, and Centrepieces of petite, 'real Christmas trees, fully decorated and potted so they can be replanted corne spring. News from the Pines Senior Public Sehool The Pines continues ta bc filled with academics, activities and athletics! Fundraising In October, the students under the guidance of Mr. Massie, held a most successful magazine subscription fundraiser. Through perseverance and creative salesmanship, the students sold over fifteen thousand dollars worth of subseriptions! Congratulations are extended to Mr. Windsor's 8D class for selling the most subscriptions and winning the pizza party. Halloween A howling good time was had by ail who attended the Halloween Dance on October 28! Students dressed in costumes and witches, vampires, ghouls and famous characters danced ta the sounds played by the D.J. At lunch, students were able ta visit the incredible Haunted House designed by Ms. Caley's 7C class. For the donation of, one non- perishable food item, to be donated ta charity, students were guided through a spider-infested, coffin-filled chamber complete with tombstones and "body parts" to be identified by touchi Strafford On November 3, a group of ninety students, plus teachers and parents, travelled ta Stratford ta view "A Midsummer Night's Dream"., This unique performance was highly enjoyed by ail and the students are ta be commended for their excellent behaviour on this fie Id trip. Reports Interim Reports Cards were sent home on November 15. Parent interviews will be held on Thursday, November 18 in the evening and ail day on Friday, from the dance really paid off. Many of the students were in costume and a good time was had by ail. Way ta go students and staff at Clarke Hligh School. Hopefully with the continued support of local businesses and the excellent efforts of the Clarke Students, the next dance will be as successful. November 19 which is a profess ional development day for, the students. The Book Fair will also be held this same week enabling studen ts and parents ta purchase e-arly Christmnas gifts! Sports The Senior Boys and Girls Volleyball teams under the capable coaching of Nr. Kerr and Ms. Stenner have been practising and playing mini-tournaments this month. Bath coaches are pleased with the improved playing and the fine sportsmanship being displayed by team members. The final tournament is scheduled for November 23. We wish them well! Theteam members are as follows: Sr. Boys - Adam Aitchenson; Adam Colville; Chris Peldiak; Colin MacDonald; Dan MacDonald; Gray Powell; John Giese; Jo hn Armishaw; Neil Thornton; and Stephen Barber. Sr. Girls - Karrie Armstrong; Julie Plath; Breanne Snell; Tara Arnott; Tanya Garai; Stephanie Spencer; Leah Kuhne; Lyndsey Holmes; Andrea Etmanskie; and Nanci Osborne. Environmental Club The Environentai Club under the guidance of Ms. Caley is busy making Christmas wreaths, decorations, magnets and bird feeders from recyclable materials. These will be on sale on Thursday, November 18 and Friday, November 19 when the parents came for interviews. The members of this hard-working club are: Jacob Campbell, Michael Dawe, Megan Cleary, Andrea Etmnanskie, Kim Birkett, Stephanie Birkett, Laura Spencer, Jessie Chidderton, Becky Chidderton, Christine Jackson, Alecia S tapies, Elizabeth O'Neill, Mandy Coatham and Diane Borremans. Hallowe'en dance great success at Clarke High On Thursday, October 28, 1993, Clarke High School was the favourite haunt of over two hundred teenagers as a highly Y successful Halloween Dance was h eld. The Thursday night dance proved ta be very popular as Friday, October 2t was a Professional Activity Day. The dance featured door prizes, raffle prizes, and an Air Band competition. Ace Restaurant supplied $150 cash for the three winners of the Air Band competition. The winners were Aaron Staples and Jamey Osmond, Phill Feltham, and Mike Johnston and Tyson Bryden.
