Orono WeePcJy TErnes, w.dnesday~ December 15, i~e~s - 9 Holliday dessert concert with deserts and beverage evening from the Novice Class, provided through the efforts of the OAC Choir, the Solo Choir, the parents and the Music Parent the Jazz Choir and the Senior Association. Band, ail under the direction of The musical talents of the Dan Kapp. school was on tap for the ,Mo re by Kyle MacDonald This week I arn writing some truths about ny rnom. She is really busy with exains and essays, s0 we are doing ail her things, like poor rnaids. Dad has a vacuumn cleaner attached to one arm and the toilet brush attached to the other. Garrett has become a professional laundry folder, and I, the oldest child, have been washing dishes, taking out the compost, sweeping, and now, trying to write mom's colurnn. I figure if Billy can draw for his dad's "Family Circus", I could write rnom's column. It's not all work, work, work, tbough. The other day, mom and I went Christmas shopping, and she can be fun too. Wbile we were driving to Oshawa, morn was yawning, lie she does a lot these days because of reading and writing ail nigbt long. Suddenly, frorn below the bottorn of her belly, up sneaked a bup. .. one of those loud ones that somne of the boys at scbool do. I was shocked! ýJo, actually, I was impressed. I always thought morns didnt burp . ..corne to think of it, tbey al probably pass gas, too! Another thing about morn too, is that wben she gets so tired, she gets grumpy. Then, we have to watch out, because she can take a big hairy ... you know what I mean? My aunty Peg calis it PMS ... this is when mom takes on tbe personality of army sargeants. Grandrna calis lit 'going on the warpatb'.. . she clangs pots and pans, and bangs cupboard doors, and we bide! Sometiw.es we go outside . . . the bitter cold seerns friendlier tban mom. Don't tei!liber ..sometirnes we make fisbi-faces at ber! Sometimes mom takes Garrett to hockey practices and gamnes. She doesn't know very rnuch about the equipment . .. she gives him the wrong ýpieces at the wrong times, and gets it alrnixed up. Lots of times other dads help her get it right! And, then when we're in the stands 1 have to help her understand what's happening with the garne. I guess that's why she used to root for Toronto . . . she doesnt know rnuch about the game!, Theres sornething I don't understand. Morn is going to university to learn more about things, and be 'smarter', but at dhe same time she is getting m ore and more forgetful. Sornetimes she forgets her alarm, and then we rush like crazy getting dressetu and lunches packed. Rhonda often waits at the end of the driveway while we hurry to catch the bus. Mom has neyer said goodbye in her nightie, but she has sometimes corne out with only one sock on! Garrett calis her Forgelful Jones. Not only is rnom forgetful, but we're late a lot, too. Then, I have to, tell ber to slow down because she sometîrnes speeds. If dad knew,-hed really be annoyd... and the police would probably put her in jail, and, then I would feel sorry for thern, because she would bc grumpy with them, too. Mom stili finds some tirne, though, to bake cookies. But, she keeps burning them, I think because she gets busy working on the computer. And, Ga-,rrett says mnommnylbas a pickle on hier ear. . . the telephone is growing out of it because she talks a lot witb Aunty Peg, Grandmna, and once in a while dJad cails frorn work just to have time to talk to her. Were thinking To continue study of Laidlaw dump In a letter to Clarington the federal Ministry of the Envir- onrnent state that they agree that furtbier assessment work should continue on the Laidlaw dump and Graham Creek. The minis try letter refers to a Gartner Lee report that concludes that some leachate contaminated groundwater does reacb Graham Creek, The report aiso reviewed available surface water flow and water quaiity, data. The data sbowed that water quality doe s not change appre- ciably frorn upstreamn to down- stream stations. But Gartner Lee does cail for furtber study in order to provide a' more comprebensive picture of the degree of contaminated loadings to Grahamu Creek and the impacts on fish and fisb habitat in the creek. The Ministry of the Environment agrees witb the Gartner Lee report as to the need of further assessment work. Counc. David Scott said that council mnust continue to bold a co.ncern as to what goes on at the dump site and cautioned o becoming complacent. about getting rnom a special appointmentbook sodad could make an appointrnent to talk with rnom., We're ail finisbed school this week and are looking forward to the bolidays . .. mostly so we can ail have some tirne together. And, maybe I can show mom bow to bake cookies without burning themn, and get ber to slow down.
