Roupghley N ovice December Ac tion The Orono House-league teani started the Christmnas week by facing off against Union Qil in Orono on December 22nd. This was not to be a good start as Union Oul beat Orono by a score of 3-0. 'Mis was a fairly rough gaine with a total of six penalties. The game was pretty even with no scoring until the mîdway mark in the second period., Orono had several chances to put one in but luck was not on their side that evening. After the gaine Orono was told that they were to play Union Oul in the first gaine of the Newcastle toumnament which they participated in on Tuesday, December 28th. In gaine one Orono opened the scoring at 8:55 of the first with an unassisted goal by J.P. Pisani. Union coun tered at 4: 10 to tie the match. The second period saw Orono go ahead 3-1 on great goals by J. P. Pisani assîsted by Aaron Robinson and Jordon Beacock with his first goal of the season assisted by J. P. Pisani and Aaron Robinson. Union Oul put two more on the board. The gaine was tied at the end of the thir<1 period b ut Orono was given the win by virtue of the first-goal rule. The whole team played outstanding with the defense pairs of Aaron Robinson and Tyler Gregg and Jessie Price with Kienan Williams holding the blue line and protecting the goalie at every tuni. 1This win put Orono in the "A" division and their next opponents were the Newcastle No. 1 teain. Our Orono goalie, Jeff Slemon was very solid in net throughout the tournament and earned the nickname "the Cat" from his tearn mates. Jeff chalked up a shut-out in gaine two as Orono won 4-0 with goals by John Halik as sistaed by M ichel Knapp and a anatural bat trick by J. P. Pîsani with assist te Austin Weagant, Kienan Williams and Jessie Price. Winning gaine 2 sent Orono into the "A" championshiîp final agamnst Horner's Petro Canada. Our boys played bard in gaine three hoping te lake home the first championship for coach Giraldi but it was not te bc. Jeff Mercier opened the scoring for Orono but this was their only score of the gaine as they were defeated 3-i. I would be remiss if I did not mention the bard work and great playing of the rest of the teain members Brian Chartran R.W., Shawn Dejohn R.W., Jeff Dickinson R.W. Jeff Mercier was named M.V.P. of the gaine for Orono as chosen by the Horner's coach and the boys went home with an "A" Championsbip Finalist trophy. Orono was to get a second chance against Horner's Petro Canada as they played thein on December 29th in a league gaine in Orono. SThe teani was pumped up for the gaine and Orono J. P. Pisani opened the scorîng early in the first period assisted by John Halik. Orono went ahead 2 to i on a heads-up play by Shawn DeJohn assisted by John Halik as he poked one past the Homner's goalie while sprawled on the ice., Congratulations te Shawn on bis first goal of the season. Horner's scored in the second period inaking it 2-i. The score became tied early in the third and. Orono turned on the jets late in the period and the comination of J. P. Pisani assisted by Jessie Price put the winner past the Homner goalie. Thie teain and the fans knew they could win and they are true champions. Atom House League Atom teain had a busyDecember. The ten gaines played were evenly split with 5 wi ns and 5 losses. Here is how the action went. On Monday, December 6th the Oshawa L.N.H.L. Blackhawks were in town. The first period was played to a, 1-i tie. Pineridge goal coming froin Andrew Beacock and assisted by Jonathan Sehoîl. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie. The Pineridge goal scored by Andrew Beacock, unassisted. The Blackhawks broke away in the tlîird period, however, scoring 4 unanswered goals to a 6-2 win. 1December 8th Pineridge defeated Hutton Transport by a 6- 1 score. Hitting the mark for Pineridge were Jake Bonnetta froin Donald Allin and Scott Wood; Andrew Beacock froin Dan Tresise and Mike Garlick; Jon Scholl froin Andrew Beacock and Dan Tresise; John Schol unassisted- Matt Gregg froin Matt Reid and Justin Standeven; Matt Reid froin Dan Tresise. On December l5th the tough Bownianville Non-Contact Hockey Club was in Orono. Pineridge felI to a closely contested 2-1 score in this match, Scoring the lone Pineridge goal was Scott Webb froin Jake Bonnetta and Donald Allin. Th e Uxbridge Select Club was in Orono on December 22 and fell to a 2-1 loss to our Pineridge boys. Andrew Beacock did the Orono scoring, his first unassisted and his second froin Brandon Hilîs and Dan Tresise. On December 23 Pineridge was in Bowmanville to play the Geranium Homes Club. Pineridge with a third period coine froin behind effort, scored a 4-3 victory. Orono scorers were Andrew Beacock froin Mike Garlick; Dan Tresise froin Andrew Beacock;, Mike Garlick, unassisted and Andrew Beacock, unassisted. Over the Christmnas holiday our Pineridge boys were in Whitby for the Optimist Atoin Hockey Toumainent. The competition was tough but our boys played some excellent hockey to come home with one win and two close loses. Pineridge played Ajax Bourbon Bailey's in match # 1 and skated w a 6-4 victory. Orono scorers-were Justin Standeven froin Matt Reid and Matt Gregg; Matt Reid froin Donald Allunand Scott Webb; Matt Reid froin Scott Webb; Andrew Beacock from Kyle Moore; Andrew Beacock (on a nice penalty shot deak); Matt Reid froin Jake Bonnetta and Dan Tresise. In match #2 Pineridge played the host Whitby Optiinist teain and fell to a very exciting 3-2 loss. Pineridge scorers were Matt Reid froin Scott Webb and Jon Sehoil; and And rew Beacock with an u nassisted marker. 1Whitby Audio was the Pineridge opponent in match #3. This was another exciting gaine as, Orono took a first period lead on Andrew Beacock's goal, assisted by Justin Standeven and Matt Gregg. Whitby Audio managed to tie the score just before the period ended. Whitby took a second period 2-1 lead and held on through a scoreless third period. There was no more scoring in until Whitby scored inidway through, the third period but it was too little too late as the result was neyer in doubt, the Halminen Homes teain winning by a score of 3-1. Scoring in this gaine were Derek Arnold, Chris Cappuccitti and Darryl Cook. Assists to Ryan Jobb, Adamn Millar and Tony Butzer. GAME 1... In a league gaine played on December 23 in Ajax, the teain came away with a 1-0 win. Darryl Cook scored the only-.goal of this very competitive gaine with Jobb and Lange assisting.
