Orono showed the effect of the Christmnas layoff as they came out very slowly allowing Bowmanville to jump to a three go 1al lead before the first period was haif over. As the game progressed the local beros began to find their skating legs and got on the scoreboard before the period ended with an unassisted goal by Matt Caruana.- A second unassisted goal by Caruana early in tbe second period was the spark that was needed-to get Orono back into the game. Jesse Gimblett assisted by Jaiie Rowe tied the game late in the second pe riod and with just seven seconds gone in the third Gimblett scoredagain to give Orono the lead for the first time in the gaine this time assisted by Nathan Adegeest with a fine breakaway pass-. One -slight lapse late in the. game allowed Bowmanvile to score resulting in a final score of 4to 4. Sunday afternoon league play resumed in Omemee witb Orono coming out trying bard but stili showing some effect of the holidays as they tended to forget about fundamental hockey at times which had a big impact on the outcome of' the game. Omemee scored late in the first period and were ney ,er behind again as they skated to a 7 to 5 victory over Orono. Orono neyer gave up but could not tie the score at any point as the game progressed. Scoring for Orono were Jesse Gimblett with two goals and two assists, Bryan Bickell, D.« J. Boardman, and Tyson Gimblett eac h witb one goal and Glencoe Hogle with one assist. The coaching staffwil bave to get back to work on the fundamental as they prepare for Friday's encounter with Ops at Orono. As the regular portion of the league play winds down the Hockey Parents are preparing for a dance to bebeld at the Orono arena on February 12. B.R.H'.L. Optimist Tyli Selects 1993 Wrap Up On December l8tb, the Bowmanville Optiinist Club Tyke Selects hosted a rematch witb a teain from the Belleville Minor Hockey Association. Altbough the Belevile team worked bard, tbey were short phayers, and this took its toîl over the course of the game, as tbey were only able to get tbree shots on our net. The first came on a breakaway, however, enabling them to de the gaine after Bowmanville's Matt Best bad given u s the head, assisted by Adam Cryderman. Somfe excellent forecbecking by Andrew Fracz belped pave the way for that- first goal. Tbe rest of the game featured good hustling by our boys, witb strong backchecking and forechecking by the forwards. Bowmanville led 3-2 after two periods on goals by Cryderman, unassisted, and iBryan Barchard, assisted by Mike Richardsonand Andrew Fracz. Richardson then iced the 4-2 vîctory witb a third period taily, assisted by Barchard. Resphendent in their dynamite red jackets, sweaters and turtlenecks, they arrived in Tweed wo face a very weak team from Picton. Everyone had a hand in the scoring, as 26 of tbeir 47 shots found the net. The previous meeting of these two clubs was in a 'Manvers Tournament Championship Round, back in November 2 with Whitby emerging 6-2 victor s. Boasting an undefeated season thus far, Whitby continued to, show their dominance as they quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game. This is the first time that the Lodge has decided to go ahead and hold their card party, when it fell on New Year's Eve. There were seven tables of card players out. They played fourteen hands of cards. Fruit punch, tea and coffee were available ah -evening. The lunch, whicb was served after cards was, chili and sausage rolîs. Cheese and crackers, tea biscuits and assorted jams. Squares, Christmias cake, and Christmas pudding with sauce., -They had mini draws after eacb game, 14 in ail.
