Oronos Major Tyke teams opposition at this event was Tim's Rental. Tbe Aggies could easily bave doubled tbeir score bad tbey been able te casb in on tbeir, numerous opportunities. An inability te find- the open man and the fine goaltending of Tim's Gordon Baird kept the score te a respectable margin. As is the Aggies usual pattern tbe boys started eut slowly in tbe first by giving up tbe first goal via, the breakaway. But tbe Aggies turned up tbe pressure on tbe opposition keeping the play in tbeir opponents end througheut tbe remainder of the first. Ibo Aggies only goal came off tbe stick of Matt Mitchell (6) wbe popped in a loose gealmouth puck after an unsuccessful wrap areund attempt by Steve Gregg (17). The second period belonged te the Aggies. Strong forecbecking and an impervieus blueline kept the play in tbe Tim's end tbreughout tbe majority of tbe period. Jesse gave Orone the lead later ini tbe saine period with a blistering shot to the top corner of the net te complete a fine solo effort. Ops came back te tie the game im the dying seconds of the period. Stili smarting from a loss to Orono in the championsbip game of their -own toumnament, Ops continued Family Auto exhibit their best- in week-end play and Kyle AllUn (10) put tbe Aggies eut ini front 2-1. On the saine shift Ryan Fowler (2) netted what would be tbe game winner witb tbe extra peints going te Crasbley and Boyce. With tbe assistance of Ryan Fowler and Brian Pisani (19), Orono's Matt Mitchell collected bis second goal late in the period. The Aggies continued their assault upon tbe Tim's netminder witb their fifth of tbe affair early in the final fi-me. Caruana earns J&M Custom shut-out Premiering last Thursday evening at Bowmanville in the J&M Custom -net, Justin Caruana (4) turned aside alI attempts by Shoppers te backstep bis team te a 5-0 win. Evan Moore (9) opened the scoring seconds into te opening stanza witb assists ftrm Ian Knox (14) and Mark KelIly (8). Less tban two minutes later, Moore tallied another marker witb a repeat assist by Ian Knox. J&M kept up the pressure early in the second and Deug Garlick '(5) was stoned on a break-a way by Shoppers netminder. Shoppers gealie was kept busy fending off several good scoring chances. Garett Wood (12) was particularly robbed several times. J&M closed the 2nd period Ieading 3-0 on a goal by Deug Garlick from Ian Knox and Mike Simiana (1 5). Shoppers opened the 3rd on the offensive, boring down on Justin Caruana in net, but bc stood bisground. J & M got their game back on the rails with a goal by Evan Moore, te complete bis bat trick. Helper, Derek Sellars (3). J&M closed the scering on an unassisted goal by Mark Kelly with only seconds remaining in the game, preserving the goose egg for Caruana. Final score, J&M Custom 5, Shoppers Drug Mart 0. Family Auto Sales, were involved in ne less tban tbree games tbis past weekend in OMHA Atom play. They dropped 2 league games, but managed an exhibition victory in wbat local bockey experts were touting as their best performance this season! Friday, January 7, Orono bosted Mariposa-Ligbtning in'a league enceunter and emerged 4-1 losers. Badly outplayed and outshot 12-2 Family Auto got it's only goal. A sbortbanded effort by team captain Rob Witheridge at 6:14 of tbe first peried. Assisting on tbe play was defencemanGreg Bester. Tbe Lightning tied it at 1- 1 with just 5 seconds remaining in tbe period and went on te add 3 more goals in the final frame te seal tbe win. Mariposa Lightning 4, Family Auto 1. Saturday, January 8, Family Auto visited Brooklyn arena te, play tbe Whitby Selects in a return exhibition matcb. After twice losing te the Selects tbis season, Orono was fired up and put fortb a solid teain effort exbibiting lots of bustle and determination. The Orono goaltending tandem of Scott Poole and Ryan Leddy performed flawlessly as the game remained scoreless into the third period. Family Auto took advantage on îwe consecutive power play opportunities as Orono's Greg Shetler tallied on botb of them at 7:57 and 7:18. Forward Brandon Caruana added a third goal for Orono wîth just over 5 minutes remaining. Wbitby pressed hard late in the gaine, but te ne avail as -Family Auto gained a well-eamed 3-0 victory. Going witb a depleted bench of only 8 skaters, Manvers took advantage of Orono's over- confidence early in tbe game as they lcd 4-1 after the first period. Orone get a goal back in the middle fraine and seemed te bave the momentum trailing 4-2,inte tbe final frame. However, after baving what looked like a third goal for Family Auto called back by tbe official, their luck ran eut. Manvers quickly took advantage of a couple of Orono defensive miscues and cashed in 2 more just 2 minutes into the third period. Family Auto cbipped away and got 2 goals back late in the gaine, but fell short losing by a 6-4 final. Suniday afternoon, Oreno travelled te Grafton te play the Bowmanvü le Selects. Tbis was a seesaw battle from start te finish with Orono scoring first on a shot off the defenseman's leg by Bryan Bickell assisted by Tyson Gimblett. The Selects tied the gaine only to sec Orono go ahead again with a goal by Jesse Gimblett assisted by Lee Allun and Curt Robinson. Once again the Selects fought back to tie the gamne but Jesse Gimblett again completed a three way passing play fromn Lee Allun and Curt Robinson to put Orono abead. Two bard shots off tbe stick of Bryan Bickell completed bis bat trick and completed the second period witb Orono ahead by two. Tbe first of tbese goals was assisted by Collin Cureatz and Tyson Gimblett and tbe second by Nathan Adegeest and Tyson Gimblett. Bowmanville fought back te tie the gaine witb Orono going abead once more on a power play goal by Jesse Gimblett, bis tbird of tbe gamne, assisted by Matt Caruana and Jamie Rowe. Bowmanville scored once more to close tbe gaine tied at six, tbe second tie in two meetings for tbese well matcbed tearus.
