They took the lead one minute later when Lee Affin scorcd high in dxe Newcastle net after taking thc fée froni Curtis Robinson. Newcastle tied dxc game in the second pcriod and went ahead in the dying seconds. Despite a strong effort Orono could not beat the opposing goalie again and fell to defeat by a score of 5 te 2. Friday niglit Orono hostcddtic littie NHL Major Red Wings under less than ideal conditions as the Zarnboni was not working and the ice, was very snow covcrcd and slow. Oshawa scorcd thc lone goal of the first pciod but Orono tied it carly in the second whcn D.J. Boardman slarnmed home a goalnouth pass from Jesse Gimbiett. Oshawa took the iead again in the second and that lead stood up until dxc dying seconds of thc dird when D.J. Saturday Orono braved tic cold weathcr to take on tic opposition at, the Otonabee tournament in Keene. Facing Immaculate Conception from Peterboroughi in dxeir first game Orono proved over powcning as dxcy skated to a 12 to 0 shutout, for goaltender Josh Brandt. Lcading the Orono attack was Jesse Gimbiett and Matt Caruana cadi with two goals and two- assists, Nathan Adegeest, two goals and one assist, Jamie Rowe widx two goals and Lee Allun and Collin Cureatz ecd widx one goal and thrc assists. Also scoring for Orono were Tyson Girnblett widx one goal and two assists and Curtis Robinson with one goal and two assists. Adding to the scoring parade were D.J. Boardman widx four assists and Bryan Bickeli with two. Orono was in tep form the whoie day and drew many fine comments on their team discipline and fine passing throughout the tournament on their way to the "A" Charnpionship. Sunday Orono ended their busiest week of the season and their regular-league play with another solid outinig as they skated to a 9 to 3 victory over Millbrook. Once again leading J&M Custom Win a "B" Championship Last Friday niglit, J&M Custom hosted Beaver Lumber at the Orono arena keeping home the shut-out for netminder, Derek Seilars (#*3). Playing a tense first period, J&M moved into the second pcriod with a scoreless tic. Evan Moore (#*9) opencd the scoring with assist by Jason Geraldi (#2). The play continucd to move back and fordx until Geraldi scored dxc second goal, assisted by Moore. Score at the.end of the second: J&M 2, Beaver 0. Despite magnificent netminding by thc Beaver goalie, Doug Garlick (#*5) successfully shot on the net, with assists by Justin Caruana (#*4) and Carl Tordiff (#10). Final taily: J&M 3, Beaver 0. Saturday, J&M visited Bewdley in its second tournament of the season, carrying home 'BI Champion trophies. Despite the frigid cold, and a long day, J&M's Tykcs played dxir best hockey of the season! In the opening gaine, Jocy Konopka (#35) wokc up the Bcwdiey netminder with an carly successful shot on net. Assist: Evan Moore (#9). Eariy in thc 2nd period, Doug Garlick (#5) gave J&M the 2-2 tic. Assist: Garrett Wood (#12). The fast-paced gamne closed in a tic forcing the exciting shootout. Despite excellent efforts by J&M's scoring wizards, and the incredulous netminding of Carl Tordiff (#10), J&M closcd the gaine widx a 4-3 loss te Bewdley. In gaine # 2 of thc teurnarnent, J&M played Newcastle to a 6-0 win. And whilc dxc shut-out goes to nctminder Carl Tordiff (#*10), the team put forth excellent offensive play. Doug Garlick (#*5) opcned the scoring with assists by Michael Fuller (#6) and Garctt Wood (4*12). Second goal also by Gariick, again assisted by Michael Fuller. Evan Moore (#*9) is creditcd with the third goal, assisted by Jason Geraldi (4*2) and Brent Vanstone (47). Mark Kelly (#8), assisted by Vanstene scored the 4th, and Evan Moore piayed thc 5th goal unassisted. The final goal, attended te- by Jason Geraldi (#*2), assisted by-Moore, gave J&M the 6-0 win over Newcastle. Despite the record-breaking chili which reached their bones, J&M took their third, and final gamne in Bewdley winning 4-1 in a fast paccd gamne. Evan Moore (#*9) opened the sconing, and continued to not oniy get the hat-trick, but the Orono attack was Jesse Gimbiett widx dxree goals and two assists. Matt Caruana added two goals and two assists and Nadxan Adegeest notdied two goals. Curtis Robinson picked up one goal and one assist and Tyson Gimblett scored once. Kevin Martin and Bryan Bickell ecd pickcd up one assist in this match. The Orono teain is piaying somne of their flnest hockey of the season at just thc ight time as dxc piayoffs are just around the corner.
