The proposed new law was designed somewhat under the recommendations of the Durham Health department's recommen- dation of 1992. The proposed by-law would have increased the areas for non-, smokers in such as restuarants where at the present time 20 percent must be set aside for non- smokers. The new by-law would have set the space at 35 percent for 1994 and ta 50 percent in 1995. The new law would have also added bowling, alleys to those who must set aside an area for non-smokers. This was the home haîf of a mini-series that started in early December wben the same teams played to a draw up in Sunderland. The rematch looked like it mighit end ini a -O die, but Uxbridge got the fortuitous deflection in the third period that resulted in the game's only goal.* Bowmanville had dominated the first period, outshooting Uxbridge 7-1, but they were unable to beat the solid Uxbridge goaltender. The second period featured goof action at both ends, with Gord Baird making an excellent breakaway save to keep the game tied at that point. In the third period, Uxbridge carried the play to Bowmanville, outshooting thcm,6-I and keeping Mr. Baird busy. Gord played the entire game in the absence of netm inding partner Justin Andrews. On the whole, iliis wvas an entertaiuiing gaine played by two very evenly matched teams. On Sunday, January 9th, the B.R.H.L. Tyke Selects travelled to Frankford for a rematch with their first opponent of the 93-94 campaign. On 'this night, Bowmanville was clearly the better team, paying far more attention to the concepts of passing and positional play than was the case on the previous night. Bowmanville applied good pressure from the opening whistle, although they managed only two first-period shots. One of these shots found the net, e L' T PTS HALIBURTON OMEMEE ORONO MARIPOSA OPS TOWNSHIP MINDEN WOOD VILLE MAN VERS FENELOIN FALLS MIILLBROOK BEAVERTON SUNDERLAND BOBCAYGEON lIJGCc's WINDOW &DC RENOVATIOt Oshawa / Whi FREE LOW "E" AND ARGON "ALL" VINYL WINDOWS THERMAL GLASS however, w/ith Daniel Michael burying a Stephen Cornelissen set-up. The boys got it in gear in the second period, creating many scoring opportunities with their speed and passing. On nine shots in the period, Bowmanvjlle seored three times to take a 4-O lead. Adam Cryderman scored on a nice centering pass from Matt Best. Andrew. Fracz added an assist on this goal and the next, which was scored by Matt Mitchell on a wrist shot from the right side that found its way through a maze of legs. Some good passing among Mitchell, Bryan Barchard and Adam Cull led to the fourtb goal, scored by CulI. Matt Best rounded out the scoring in the third period on a screened shot, assisted by Cull and Jamie Whitehead. Although Frankford rarely penetrated the Bowmanville, zone, Gord Baird was ready and able when they did. A breakaway stop and a good diving poke-cbeck were his best saves. He received congratulations fro m his teammates after the game for the complete game shutout in a 5-O win., Bowmanville travelled ta Scarborough's Malvemn Arena on January l5th for the 7th annual Tom Milîs Memorial Tournament. Altbough this was expected ta be a challenging and competitive tournament, Bowmanville's first game was against a surprisingly weak Scarborough Sabres team, whom Bowmanville defeated 14-O. Congrats to Adam Cryderman, who was voted MVP on the strength of 4 goals and 2 assist. Honourable mention should go to Stephen Cornelissen, who logged 2 goals and 4 assists. 1The red and white were dynamite in the second game of the tournament against a much tougher opponent from the Hillcrest area of North York. The first period was rather sluggisb, with both teams registering only 3 shots on goal. The B.R.H.L. Selects got the only goal, however, with Mike Richardson scoring, assisted by Bryan Barchard and, Stephen Cornelissen.
