Has plan for public lands A Hope Township counilor envisions a parklîke setting for lands now owned by the Township, 55 acres, north of Canton. The site now contains a garage, municipal building, dump, gravel pit and otber buildings. The township is considering either building a new township g arage or renovating the existing garage. SThe councillor would bave the gravel pit, which is soon to run, out, bc made into a fishing pond in the summer, and a skating aiea in the winter. He also envisions park lands, waikways an& other features inciuding picnic areas, and tables. Cobourg bids for downtown program The Town of Cobourg is bidding to be one of the three communities chosen in Ontario to participate in a new downtown revitalization program. if chosen jobsOntario wouid provide $20,00, Home Hardware $10,000 and other funding from the Cobourg Downtown Association, Charober of Commerce and the town. Fifteen other municipalities bave applied for the grants wbich would assist in a 12-month plan towards revitalizing the downtown area. Group asked to mend fences Dennis Wood bas told members of the Port Hope Community Liaison Group that a furtber attempt should be made to resolve différences between the task force and the council of Port Hope as to- the nuclear waste dlean-up in the Town. He said the parties should bc moving in the same direction if the dlean-up process is to succeed. The Mayor of the Town recently met with the next Minister of natural Resources discussing the dlean-up of nine sites within the Town. Agreement with Clarington tops Ms. Sue Stickley of Port Hope From A round The Regin who recently ý took early retirement from O6ntario Hydro has recently state4 in an interview with the Port Hoe Guide that she was proud of the work she had helped accompliÉh with Ontario Hydro and espec'ially the negotitions of the mutually- benefiting fire protection agreement between Ontario Hydro and the Municipality of Clarington. The total agreement with the municipality amounted to $13 million. Ms Stickley is now considering her next career path which may include writing, consulting in comunty relations and communication work or teaching. New executive Clarke Museum A new executive has been elected at Clarke Museum and Archives with Ross Campbell'or Bowmanville elected chairman and David Wing, also of Bowmanville, elected as vice- chairman. Kathryn Dennis of Kendal bas been elected Ireasurer and Kristen McCrea, Kendal, being elected secretai-y. Former chairman Donna Robins of Newtonville.has been appointed bonourary past chairman and curator Mark Jackman has again been appointed recording secretary. No increase in GRCA levies At a regular meeting of the Gànâtàkà Pêion Conservation Authority last Thursday the authority set Municipal levies on their eight municipalities at the saine level as Iast year. No increase.
