Orono as playing 2 men short with Kienan Williams gone and Jeff Mercier on die disabled list with a coIl The first pcriod was scoreless with great goaitending at both ends, our own #1 Jeff Siemon coming up big on several occasions. Early in the first, #2 Shawn Dejong left the gaine injured so the teain had to pull together and play extra shifts. Orono opened the scoring at 11: 14 of the second on a goal by #7 Brian Chartrand who took the pass. from #12 J.P. Pisani and #4 Jessie Price. Ail Canadian'came right back to dec it up less than 1 minute later. Early in the third, #12 J.P. Pisani, assisted by #5 Aaron Robinson put Orono ahead 2-1. The boys fought off many A.C.A. attacks and held them. at Major Plumbing Novice, Dufferin, Aggies Tyke fali to a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon Orono OMHA Novice traveled 'to Manvers to take on the Bowmanvile Toros in a tuneup gaine while each teain awaits the next round of the playoffs. This was a fast paced gaine from start to finish with both teams skating well froin the opengfcof The Toros. opened the scoring early in the second period when a Orono defenseman accidcntally deflected the puck into his own net. Bowmanville went up by two goals in the third period on a good shot that got by goaltender Josh Brandt who played another outstanding gaine in goal încluding twospectacular saves. Despite several good chances, Orono was unable to break the shutout and fel w a 2 to 0 loss. Orono now begins the next round of the playoffs Thursday night in Newcastle with the second gaine Friday in Orono at 7:30. The boys are playing somne fine hockey and deserve lots of support as they take on the strong rivais from Newcastle. J&M manage a, corne- baâck after slow start Last Friday night at Orono, J&M Custoïn Tykes hosted Beaver Lumber. After failing to register a shot in Uic flrst period and despite Uic heroic efforts of Garctt Wood (12) in net for J&M, it was no surprise Uiat Beaver led 2-0 at the end of the first. The second period mirrorcd Uic tirst, wiUi Beaver'maintaining a large territorial advantagc in the J&M zone, failing, however, to pad their lead. Justin Caruana (4) finally got J&M on Uic board with their fmrt shot of the gaine in the dying seconds of the 2nd period. Shooting froin Uic centre lime, he must have surprised the Beaver netmninder. Mark Kelly (8) scored on a pass frein Joe y Konopka (35) with 1:23 left in Uic gaine. With just under a mnute lcft, Evan Moore (9) iced it with an unassisted marker to make the come-back complete. For Outstaning Play, Joey Konopka # 35 earn,"A" championship Orono's Aggies travclled to- Peterborough on Saturday, February 12, 1994 to participate in the P.M.H.A. Tyke Toumnament. Gaine one has thein up against a Peterborough H.L. team which proved no match for the Orono boys. Orono's #2 Ryan Fowler had a hattrick i the first shift which was an indication of things to comne. Orono's goalie for the day #19 Brian Pisani faced 1 shot al gaine. Orono won gaine 1 by a score of 20-0 which sent thein to the "A" Division. Gamn 2 was played against a teain froin Bridgcnorth. It was uncertain in the first half of the first period how thc boys would do against this teain as tic scoring was kept to a minimum by both sides, but in the 2nd period Orono!s offence broke open and handiiy won thc gaine 14-3. Orono was then faced with the task of playing well against'the teain froin Bobcayge on which was also undefeated in the tournament. Things werc not going well in the first two pcriods, as our side was down 4- 1. A pep talk froin thc coach and some good goaltending tumned the gaine around and saw thc Aggies score 5 unanswered goals givmng thein tic championship gaine 6-4. This determined bunch of boys deserve credit for not giving up and giving it their ail. Congratulations tocoaches Allin, Moffat and Martin on the win. Prior to the tournament, the Aggies piayed a league gaine on Tuesday, February 8, 1994 in Bowmanville against Langes Photo. The teain wanted to win this one for coach Cox who is in Marysville, Newfoundland and will miss a few of the gaines. A big hello frons aiUthe boys Fred!
