Drari~a Wo~kskop Drama Porshop TUeset " Age of CUoncern" 1News and Information for Seniors" from your "Senior" at Queen's Park - Gord Milis In recent months, some physicians have told me of their need tobecome corporations, to assist them to botter deal with tax related implications. This week, Health Minister Ruth Grier announced that she has asked a special advisory counicil to consider how to proteet the public, interest while allowing physicians to incorporate. For incorporation to occur, the Medicine Act must be amended. Physicians, along with two other health professions, are now granted under specific profession acts and the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). "The Heulth Professions Regulutory Advisory Council is made up of seven citizens appointed wo advise the minister on public amendments. it will consider wbether other health professionals covered under the RHPA should be able to incorporate. Its important tbat we know the impact on tbe public interest before we grant the privilege of incorporation to physicians. These implications could be of an ethical or social nature, or tax related, nevertheless, ail have to be addressed. The Health Minister bais asked the council to consider several issues. Amoàng themare; who may hold shares in a medical corpora tion? What principle should govern a medical corporation's ability te engage in uctivities other than the practice of medicine? Is it in the -public interest to allow physicians and other regulated health professions to incorporute.
