14 - Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, March 30, 1994 Y O.S.S.T.F awards go to Northumberland-Clarington teachers Roughley Novice continue with playoff schedule At the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Assembly (AMPA) of the Ontario Secondary Teachers' Federation held in Toronto from March, 12 - 14, 1994, members of District 49 (Northumberland- Clarington) were among those honoured. Keith Nicholas, Head of Music at Cobourg District Collegiate Institute East, was awarded the J.W. Ansley Memorial Award for Educational Research. Research projects of a prac'tical nature which will primarily benefit the classroomf teachers are considered for this award. Mr. Nîcholas' proposaI, "Music for Every Tom, Dick and Harriet" is a Music appreciaion package designed to provide teachers at ail levels of musicality with user friendly lesson plans- and resourc e materials for developing Music listenin g and creativity skills in students. Mr. Nicholas was recognized with a $1500.00 award. The S. Hunter Henry iviemoriai 1eowship, tw assist OSSTF members with full-time studiesat a university of their choice, was awarded to Gail MacKenzie, -Head of Co- OperativtEducatîon at Clarke, High School. This fellowship of $3500.00 will assist Mrs. MacKenzie next year while she pursues a Masters of Education degree at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (O.I.S.E.). As part of lier programme, she wili be working on developing an Employability Skills Profile for student use. On Monday, March 14, Lynda Booker, Presidentof District 49, O.S.S.T.F. attended the Awards ceremony, a "highlight" in my association with this District", she said. "District 49 is ývery proud of this Provincial recognition of the excellent educators we have in our schools.' Highi score of the night went 10 Doreen Lowery with 85; second, Reg EllioUt with 84; third high went 10 Jean Jilisen with 82; George Mercer and Frank Drinide tied for fourth with 78 points. 7ie draw was won by Dave Spencer and the draw for frece admission 10 the next card party on Friday, April 8th was won by Dean Polley. On Saturday, March 26th, the Ladies Lodge, Kendal His L.O.B.a. 1420 held their annual Penny and, Bake Sale. Once again it was.a very-successful event. The hall was full for the Penny Sale draws, wih many, winning prizes. A lunch of muffins, jams and marmalade, tea and coffee was served following the draws. The door prize of a lamp was won by Gary Thirtle of Kendal. It is through events lie this that we are able 10 support various charities. We thank we you ai for your support. Il is a fun night our for ail ages. The men will be meeting on Wednesday, April 6th. The Junior Lodge will, be meeting on Thursday, April *9th. Lowery Roughley Novice hockey league played gaine 2 of their playoff schedule against M&M Meats on Wednesday, March 23 at Darlington arena. Once again # 1 in net was Brian Chartrand who played a stellar gaine between the pipes. Orono opened the scoring at 8:07 of the first with an unassisted goal by #17 J.P. Pisani. Pisani struck again at 6:08 and #16 Jeff Mercier notched goal 3 at 4:04. M&M finally scored at 2:28. The second period saw only one goal scored by Orono's #14 Jordan Beacock, assisted by # 121 Adam Andrews and # 17 J.P. Pisani. M&M struck first in the third with their second and final goal at 13:20. Orono ans wered with three more scored by # 4 Jesse Price, assisted by #17 J.P. Pisami; #17 J.P. Pisani unassisted with is hat trick goal at 6:30; and #8 Michael Knapp as sisted by #1 7 J.P. Pisani at 2:05. The final score was 7-2 taking their playoff record to 1-1. Friday evening saw the Novice take on the Orono Major Tykes in an exhibition gaine in Orono. It was fun for the Gregg and Pisani brothers to play against each other. The final score had the Novice ahead by 6-2 but the Tykes can be proud of their play as they skated head to head wîth the Novice and were close many times in the scrum around the net. Playoffs continued on Sunday, March 27 at Darlmngton arena as they played National trust. Orono opened the scoring at 14:07 with a goal by #11 Dustin Weagant, assisted by #12 J.P. Pisani and #3 Michael Knapp. Orono struck again at 9:07 with #5 Aaron Robinson rushing the net on a pass from #16 Jeff Mercier, and went ahead 3-0 early in the second on a goal by #12 J.P. Pisani assisted by #9 JEff Dickinson and #4 Jesse Price. This seemed to spark on the National Trust teama as they scored 2 goals in the second bringing them within one., Orono was able 10 score one more as #16 Jeff Mercier passed to,#12 JLP Pisani who put il in the net. With 1:20 Billy Savage, a grade 2 student at the Kirby Centennial School has had bis poetry published in the Board of Education's annual Poetry Anthology.
