A posiive communiey link for Clarke High School Monday, March 7 marked an important date in the life of Clarke High School stuclent, Mike Dreslinski.- le-is-now a Co-op- student, and a S.S.W.A.P. student working on bis sheet metal apprenticesip papers. This is all possible througb Mike's co-op employer, Pete Demeter, owner of Clarington Roofing of Orono, the Ministry of Education and Training, and Uic Northumberland and Clarington Board of Education. The Secondary School Workplacc Apprenticeship Program (S.S.W.A.P.) aims to increase the province's supply of skilled workers by encouraging more young people to choose careers in Uic skilled trades. S.S.W.A.P. allows Mike to log bis eigbt-hour days towards bis sheet metal apprenticeship papers and earn bigb school credits as well. Mike hopes to get 4 credits for this semester leaving only 2 remaining for bis Ontario Secondary 'Scbool Diploma (OSSD). After graduation bc will continue with bis apprenticesbip and bc that mucb further ahead on bis career paUi. After working with Mike as a co-op student for less than a montb, Mr. Demeter saw the potential and was prepared te take Mike on as an apprentice.
