Behind la the series four points te ene, Orono faced-off for game four up in Thedferd on Saturday. April 9 and surprised the Thunder with a 5-2 drubbing. Family Auto came eut flying as they butîit up a 3-0 after the first period and led 3-1 after two. Orono neyer looked back as they outscered Thedford 2-1 in the final frame as well. Their league record over 20 games was 9 wins, 8 lesses and 3 tdes. This was good enough for a 3rd place standing in a very closely contended division. Their overaîl record (including exhibition games and toumnaments) has been 24 wins, 17 losses and 7 dies. After completing the regular season on a three game losing streak, things suddenly started to come together for the boys as they went through the playoffs with an il gaine unbeaten streak. It was only a very close 3-2 loss te the B.R.H.L. Kinsmen teain, in the final round robin playoff gaine, that tarnisheti the record. 1Over this stretch, Orono played each of the 8 house league teams once, defeating alI but Carnation Florists and T-Mac Insulation who they tied and the Kinsmen teain to whom they feUl te defeat. Also in the stretch Orono played three gaines la the BRHL Atom Toumnament. Orono won their first two games of the tourny but lost eut on a 2-2 tde te Pizza Pizza for not sceing the first goal. Their fine performance over the past few weeks has put Orono's Atom houseleague team in the 'A' Championship. Their oppenent is the Pizza Pizza teain. The playoff championship has been set up as a best of three playdown. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13 at Orono at 8:00 p.m. Game 2 is in Bowmanville Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. Game 3, if required will be Saturday, April 23 at Bowmanville at 2:00 p.m. Yes. there are still teams playing hockey la Orono, Se come on eut and cheer tbem on. J&M ties play-off opener against Shoppers Drug Mart On Sunday, April lOth, at 8:00 p.m., J&M Custom hosted the opening game of the BRHIL 'A' Division Minor Tyke best-of- three sertes lin Orono. ln a deviation from fermn, two teams that tend te rely on their offence put on a fine display of, team defence and a goalies' duel. Carl Terdiff (#10), J&M's netmninder, played a very sound first peried making several difficuit stops. S hoppers' ceunterpart minding net at the other end was also equal te the challenge and had the added burden of having te, play one person short while killiag off a penalty in the latter half of the period. The first pertod concluded with a scoreless tie. Early in the second period, Deug Garlick (#5) managed te get away a shot that the Shoppers' goalie got most of, but wbîch still trickled past him. Assists on the goal te Michael Fuller (#16) and Mark Kelly (#8). Shoppers' goalie put on a show during the second period wben he stopped what appeared te be several sure goals. While Carl Tordîff was also playing well for J&M Shoppers inanaged te get one past him at 4:25 te tie the score, and end the 2nd perîed knotued at one. Both teams had several goed scoring opportunîties in the 3rd, and again, both gealies were equal to the task. J&M put on a concerted effort towards the end of the period, but were foiled time after urne. Final score in the series opener: J&M - 1; Shoppers - 1. J&M rose and shone in this early momniag gaine, with special note of the efforts put forth by Garett Wood (#1 1) and Amanda Adegecst (# 16). Keep up the good teamwork, J&M, and good luck in tonight's pivotai game ta the play-off series! Thedford: RyaPi (L, 2-1-1) AIT. at Thedford - 302 Thedford hosted game five Sunday, April 10 te, a capacity crowd. The Thunder grabbed an early 2-0 lead that stood up until the third period. Orono fought back with a goal midway through the frame. With less than two minutes remainîng Family Auto silenced the boisterous hometown crowd with the equalizer forcing the second ten minute overtime period of the series. Both clubs battled ferociously with one another scoring no less than six goals sending the crowd into an emotional roller coaster ride for the final ten minutes of the season. Orono was six minutes and fifty-four seconds away fromn forcing a gaine six in the series on home turf as they jumped ahead by a 4-2 score! However as he'd done throughout the playoffs, Thedord's Jamile Johnson did not disappoint his hometown fans as he orchestrated four straight goals la the last six minutes of the gaine giving the Thunder a 6-4 victory and the Ontario Championship.
