Small Miracles Child Development Centre Ine. will receive thie one-time funding for leasehold renovations, and ta purchase toys, equipment and furnishings, Durham East MPP Gardon Milîs announced here today on behaîf of MCSS Minister Tony Silipo. "This is great news for families in Bowmanville and a boost for the local economny as weil," said Mr. Milîs. "In the short termn it will provîde jobs for about nine people for approximately four months, and permanent jobs for educators and other caregivers when the centre opens.- Thie Kaitlin Group Ltd., developers of the Aspen Springs complex, is constructîng a shopping centre in the development in which the new chld care centre will be housed. When the child care centre Councl Briefs Single Family housing surged aheadt in Claringtan in March with thie issuance of 32 permits bringing the total for 1994 ta 47 comi-paring with 30 for the sane -) n1993. 1SemniDetached permits also, jumped head in March with 30 making a total of 32 for 1994. The 32 figure for thie first three months is down from 46 in 1993. Tlie total ta thie end of March in residential building permits bas reached 89 for 1994 comparing with 76 in 1993. Commercial permits drag slightly this year whle industrial opens, expected in the fail of 1994, it will be licensed ta provide care up ta six infants, 10 toddlers, 32 pre-schoolers, and 15 school-age children. Clarington Community Service departinent bas set plans for a Community Yard Sale that has met with the approval of council members. The event would be held in the Bowmanville Recreation Centre and would be open ta community based organizations of which there are some 200 in thie municipality. It was pointed out that Local Flea Markets accommodate commercial/ private vendors while garage sales accommodate thie private home owner. A date for the event bas yet ta be set but is expected perhaps in June. It would operate between thie hours of 10 a.m. and,2:00 p.m. and a charge of $20.00 bas been set for a table and two chairs. The Community Service Department reported on thie operation of their March Break Bonanza that operated with a surplus of $2802.00 this year. Thie program cost somne $6640. The- March Break program includes a DayCamp, Day Trips and Pay-As-You-Go programs of skating, teen dance and swimming. This latter program increased in participation of 1260 in 1993 to 1778 in 1994. In total enrolment of ail the programs the increase was 52 percent from 1501 in 1993 ta 2281 ini 1994. The Day Trips also noted a considerable increase in numbers. Thes trips included a trip to the Skydome/ Swimming/Bowling and the Hockey Hall of Fame. These did prove popular this year. Fees ranged from the $1 5.00 day rate to a $25.00 day rate.
